My technical limitations mean that I am unable to attach a photo - but the helmet used to be on dzign site - its a sort of checkered flag design

Kickstart I am using Lee from Dzign for the first time this year and I get mine back from him on Friday so can't wait to see the result.

He seems pretty good. I know a number of people who have used him and all have had top results.

I've been quoted from one *unnamed* firm £270 + vat & postage, another said £185.00 + P&P.
I'm going to call Lee from Dzign this evening see what he says, then I'll get a nod from my dad and go ahead with it

How long does it take on average? And do you have to have a white helmet for it to be painted?

Don't know how long it'll take, but you don't need a white helmet to get it painted I think.

just picked mine up from Lee tonight and it is brill. He can paint over existing designs as well as white lids. Quite funny as my team mates helmet was in his list of "to do" helmets!!!

Btracer, all good artists have large lead times as they have a lot of clients... as they are good. Lee has around a 6 week turnaround at the moment.

I've already got two sparco formula's, from the kart show, want them both painted though, so about £200 each paint job.

Right, for those of you who want you nuts polished - jlf designs - they are on the web, and have done lots of hats for some big noises.

On the subject of HANS device and cost of helmets - 1. how much is a new head. 2. how much does a neck cost to get fixed?

I found that the pukka Schroth belts for use with the HANS were cheaper than anyone else's belts for use with HANS.

One thing that you have to make a note of: If you share the drive of a car, and fit the proper belts for use with a HANS, the FIA approval is only valid when used with a HANS, so each driver must wear one. If you're not running in a series where you have to run FIA belts, you could use 2" belts with a HANS. Do not use 3" belts - (a) because they'll probably be uncomfortable, and (b) in the event of a shunt, they'll probably slide off of the device, and then you're in trouble. They tried making a HANS for wide belts, but in the event of an impact, you would be most likely to break both collar bones (ouch).

I bought a GP5 to go with my HANS, as the AGV Integrale that I bought last year (when I bounced my last lid off of the car in the parc-ferme - errr... we'll take that for you.... said the scrutineer!) hasn't been appoved for use with the HANS as yet, since AGV haven't submitted them for testing.

I got a great deal from Grand Prix Racewear - who also use JLF to paint lids..

I haven't had mine painted yet, simply because I have other things to spend my money of first!

A bit off topic, but while you mention it:

I bought a GP5K from DT just before the end of last season, then got my HANS last month. (DT collected the lid, fitted the HANS posts and sent it back with a fitting certificate for free, which I thought was nice of them). Anyway, they said that my existing 3" belts were no problem. They seem to stay in place ok just sitting in the car and wriggling about, but that might be because I have a single belt anchor 18" or so behind my shoulders. Anyway, I noticed at Autosport that the HANS from GP racewear and DT are different. The former had extra little wings to stop the belts sliding off and could only be used with a 2" belt. The one I got doesn't have that bit. Which do you have?

Mine doesn't have any wings.

I didn't think the GP5K was approved (FIA) for the fitment of HANS anchors. But then again, if you're not doing FIA events, it shouldn't matter, providing it doesn't invalidated the SNELL approval.

I'm just a little miffed that I couldn't get the anchors fitted to my Integrale. It's not a year old yet! Mind you not as miffed as I was when my GP-Jet hit the tarmac.

There was a bit of a debate about the GP5K, but someone on 10-10ths said they'd seen it on an approved list. Either way, it comes with HANS post postions reinforced and pre-drilled so fitting posts is straight forward.... and I don't do FIA events.

I've loaned my GP-Jet to a mate and got the GP5K after I lost the peak of the Jet on the Revitt Straight.... knew I should have changed it before I went racing in an open car :-)
