No, but Chrysler Corp. did buy Mitibushi a few years ago, lol.
Chrysler did buy Daimler. I think Audi-VW is associated also. |

Not necessarily. FIRST they have alot of changes to make before they have a V8 Pushrod engine for those cars. The will have to pump ALOT of money into this sport in order to be competitve. Could be a good thing.

Not quite what I meant. Sure they WILL have to throw some $$ NASCAR's way in order to get in. But they will FIRST have to throw money into R&D of the engines & how to make them fit. Remember these are all smaller front wheel drive cars? That will take some major investment in order to do.
Then there will be the developement of the actual cars. Again- More Buckeroo's. Not to NASCAR- but to engine companies- Safty equiptment, engineers, & consultants. People are going to be hired, People are going to make money. |

For something to sell....there has to be a demand. Personally, I do not see a demand OR DESIRE to have Toyota or Nissan in Winston Cup. In any case, Nascar will ultimately decide and I don't see them doing anything to upset Ford or Chevy.

Is NASCAR still having that regulation, that any competing car must be US made? Japanese cars are made in US, so no problem there. BUT...if Pontiac wants someday replace GP in favor of new GTO. That's originally a Holden Monaro - an Australian car. So, should it have a green light?

My 2 cents....yes they should approve the GTO. No matter if it is based on the Australian Holden Monaro. It is still a Pontiac GTO which is a U.S. car.

I hope that doesn't happen... It will take away from the history of Nascar, and how it originated... How many moonshiners drove Toyotas or Nissans??? I think Nascar is a pure American sport involving the (rich) good ole boys... To introduce foreign cars into it would ruin it IMO!!! I realize the sport has grown leaps and bounds in the last few years, and I think Earnhardts death had a lot to do with it... The out pouring, and the news media coverage, got a lot of none race people interested into finding out why so many people are so wrapped up in this sport... Once they found out, a lot of them got hooked, and stayed...

I think it will happen.
Toyota has partnered with Chevrolet to produce cars, so has Susuki. Once a body was approved I'm sure that Toyota could make a deal with Chevrolet to use their engines, Nissan wouldn't be far behind (probably aligning with Ford is my guess). You might as well prepare for it, I think Nascar is heading in that direction. |

Ohh yeah, shove a GT-R onto Daytona!
Honda, Toyota and Nissan are/about to be in IRL as well as Foreign drivers and rounds, and that was meant to be an "All American" Series, Why can't NASCAR do the same? Although the Jap companies are usually into tech, why would Toyota or Nissan make a pushrod, carby V8? |

"Although the Jap companies are usually into tech, why would Toyota or Nissan make a pushrod, carby V8?" ---------------------------------------------------------- That's why I think there will be an "agreement" between the Japanese auto makers with Chevrolet & Ford for the engines, the Japanese companys will produce them under license from Chevrolet & Ford. The US auto makers will make BIG $$$$$$$$ and possibly gain any improvements that the Japanese might discover. |

2003 will be see 3 car makes (Ford, Dodge, & Pontiac) using the same basic body design (Taurus), when Nascar goes to a generic body, the imports will be close behind, only Chevrolet is not based on the Taurus body, watch what happens next.

I don't like the idea of the generic bodysapes, the Pontiac used to look really unique, it will be really weird with the 'higher' nose of the Ford.

The 'headlights' don't look right there, they look like they were just stuck on, while the 2002 has recesses for the lights (well, sorta) and a higher 'bumper' line. I much prefer the 2002 |

They had to change the "headlights" to fit the Taurus body.
The "generic" racecar is now here !!! (and all 4 cars are based on the Taurus body !!!) |
