News 10.09.2009
Ford will send the Grp.5 Capri to the ADAC-Eifelrennen at the end of the month.
Also the old DTM and DRM Cars will have some races.
We will go with 8 MK1 and MK2 Escorts also a Capri RS2600 for the regulary run at the Green Hell.... More informations at www.adac-eifelrennen.de
Anybody else there???
Greeds from Germany
Stefan

ADAC Eifelrennen vom 25. bis 27. September 2009

Hi All,

Been in Singapore for work and managed to get to Malaysia to see Harvey Yap, the first driver after the car was sold away from Zakspeed.

Harvey gave me a few photos of the car and the promise of more to come along with entry lists and race programs.

1st photo, car at Race Circuit in Johor Bahru, 2nd photo, Shar Alam Circuit and 3rd photo, Penang road Circuit all in Malaysia.

Cheers,

Gary.

Hezemans Escort

Could you perhaps tell me who on earth now owns a Hezemans escort? I've done quite a bit of research on Crazy Heze's GRAB built car and even spoke to the the first owner after Hezemans and the last owner who brought the car to Trinidad & Tobago, raced it and subsequently crashed it beyond repair. So my question how can it be alive and kicking again??

(btw. I always thought there might be a second car built, but until now I couldn't 'prove' it, could it be this is the car you're talking about?)

Let us know, I'm sure we're all just as keen to know..
The gentleman who owned the car in Trinidad & Tobago would be Frankie Boodram, a true Ford fanatic. I used to run his race team in the early to mid 90s and he had an Escort (a.k.a. The Wild Geese) with alloy cage where the original pipes to the side radiators had run through the cage. At last alteration this was fitted with a Cosworth YB (NA) from Hurricane Racing in Holland.

There was indeed a second car which had visited TnT (The Shotgun) but had apparently returned to Europe. Frankie's car was rebodied with an altered Sierra silhouette which crashed. The original panels should still be somewhere in one of his warehouses in storage. I have a fantasy of reshelling the bits and even building some panels from carbon fibre and kevlar.

Out of curiosity Frankie also has two working GAA engines. I'm sure he could be persuaded to part with either for the right price.

I'm really searching the memory banks but I remember the rear end being quite similar to that in post 114 with fenders and front splitter same as post 225. It even had the same gold-centred, centre-locking 3 piece BBS wheels.

The front crossmember was a work of art with a lattice of small steel tubes.

The rear wing was a completely different single post, single-seater type. Frankie should still have a lot of photos.

With the YB and a Quaife 6-speed box it was a formidable car.

I just realised that you had asked in a Caribbean forum 2 years ago. Did you ever reach Frankie Boodram? The pictures you posted look identical to the car I remember, especially the rear wing.

Hi DrDron, great to hear something from someone involved back then. Indeed I did post on the Carribean forum (trinituner.com I think it was), I got some help there, which was helpful, because in the end I managed to contact Frankie Boodram. Back then I didn't know very well what exactly to ask for But what I found out was the Frankie still has the front subframe of the car, the rest was apparently destroyed?? Could you confirm? I am still eager to find out! Because I still think there were two cars build by Hezemans, I'm pretty sure that one of them was the car Frankie used (athough I have read comments by people saying he drove a zakspeed escort??). Point is, the car Hezemans designed was a lot more extreme than the Zakspeed cars as far as I could see. Aluminium tubes (rollcage) everywhere through the lightened escort bodyshell, without those, the body would probaply have fallen apart.. On top of that a Hewland transaxle gearbox and it used the front brakes from a Porsche 917 if I'm not mistaken! Does that ring a bell?

Any chance you know a bit more of other interesting cars that raced back then in the 70s/80s in the carribean, I have some points of interest!

I've seen the pictures of the Hezeman car as well as the Zakspeed and although Frankie's car was supposed to be a Zakspeed; It was definitely very radical. Frankie still had all of the bits except the front splitter (unless he's destroyed them). Even though the car had crashed he had everything and it had been locked away in a repairable state. I could give you his number if you like.

The monopost rear wing, semi space-frame chassis, and the alloy cage I definitely remember.

Hi All,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

For all who are interested the Zakspeed had it's first run 2 weeks ago and went very well, it was so good to drive it and hear it run again the way it was built too after so long.

Just a few minor issues that I am sorting now and will be ready to race 2nd week in Feb.

Will add a short video link soon, I have attached a few photos for now.

Regards,

Gary.

Gary zakspeed 65, while trying to uncover the history of my car , i have found some interesting info and pics of a genuine Zakspeed Escort (im not really up on what stage gr 2 grp 5 etc.) car racing here in Australia. I have come across a Zakspeed Escort imported here 1981 in Western Australia by Ian Grey sold to Mike Mettam then on to John De Haan before being sold on to a Queensland buyer in 1989. Through this period the car raced in Malaysia and at apoint around 1986 the car had its original engine replaced with a Rotary. The car is still in Queensland.
