Found: The Le Mans Mini Marcos!

The most legendary of all Mini derivatives is still alive. The Mini Marcos that came 15th overall at the 24-hours race of Le Mans in 1966.
Also known as Le Mans' most heroic entry.

Why was the car built in Left hand drive format?

As I understand it, Monsieur Hburon simply bought a Mini Marcos bodyshell after seeing one at the London Racing Car Show, taking it back to his Paris garage to build-up (by the signage he was a BMC specialist). He presumably used a LHD Mini as donor car.

Fascinating stuff! Thanks for sharing. Is there any hope of restoring it to it's former glory?

Tony Jardine and Rae Davis raced one in the Le Mans Classic about 10 years ago. I spoke to Tony just before qualifying and he said that he basically had to fold himself in half to get behind the wheel!

I remember discussing with Claude Ballot-Lena about this race. He was rather tall too but he found that the most uncomfortable was to be overtaken by "big dogs" at night in the Hunaudières straight. At this time the track was rather narrow, bumped on some places and safety was just a word … The guard rails were low and their posts not very tough. A lot of solid trees around too.
