Not bad so far, the field has spread out rather quickly though. Let's see if Schirro can make good on Montermini's ever-excellent race pace.

Schirò didn’t-couldn’t make good, unlike last year when Montermini could make a quick pass and drive off he is working extra hard this season. I don’t know what BoP they use for the GT2 cars but the Vettes seem a lot faster this year. Last year Montermini was the hunter now he is the hunted, Tutumlu had him for the second place spot until that Ferrari in front of him went sideways and he had to go off track to avoid a collision. Montermini is going to have a tough year paired with Schirò.

Thanks for the heads up, I forgot all about GT Open, I was thinking it started end of June. I had to catch up and watch the previous races on their YouTube channel. I also found a descent stream for the GT Masters as well so I got to watch Oliver Gavin and Daniel Keilwitz take a double at the Red Bull Ring. Needless to say not much got done this past weekend.

I don't think Montermini is helped by Schirro taking a while to get used to GT cars. He could have done with another season in GTS before moving up to Villorba Corse.

From a quick scan of the technical regulations, the Vettes have gotten bigger restrictors but not enough to explain the massive turnaround. Then again they were quick last year, but they didn't have Soulet/Tutumlu (who were both very quick in different cars).

Vettes looked sluggish, maybe some weight and or a smaller restrictor?

Does anyone know why Villorba Corse have switched to a GT3-spec 458? Is it related to their running in Blancpain this year?

maybe because from this season, GT3 cars are allowed to run in SGT, so they sold their 2011 458 GT2/E to buy a pair of 458 GT3, cheaper and easier to maintain

They mentioned the difference in chassis between the V8 Racing cars, but to my recollection not which specific GT1 car was used.

I watched every race of the Gt open series last year and liked it. Now..well lets say its gone downhill big time. It should probably see the grave unless they can attract a more diverse field of GT3 cars and some real GTE machinery.

SRO and its Blaincpain series has become stronger than GT Open.

In my opinion, the time penalty makes the race difficult to follow. After the penalties the whole field changes.

Best thing was the diversity of the grid, now what you have are old GT1 cars butchered to "GTE" specs, and a Ferrari challenge grid.

While I feel that the series is rather done at this point in terms of offering anything even remotely interesting, at least those old grandfathered GT1s and time penalties etc prevent this from being yet another 156th sprint-race-all-GT3-clone that looks and sounds like every other GT series in Europe. Though allowing GT3 into SGT isn't exactly helping in that

Just watching the highlights on Motors TV - the drivers out number the spectators!
I couldn't swell the ranks of spectators because of family commitments but I had intended to make the journey. I appreciate the weather was a bit iffy this weekend but as a series it deserves a better turnout?

Perhaps it does, but there's nothing unique about GT Open anymore, unless you really want to see that GT1 Vette or utterly loath penalty ballast. It's third choice at best behind BGT/BSS which both have attractions over and above what IGTO can offer.

Agree with J Jay, after 2012 great season; the quality of the championship wasn't so great in 2013 (compared to 2012), but at least there were a lot of cars still. This year quality and quantity simply dropped... and nothing lets to think that things will improve next year
