Terry, production figures a little down page here-http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=6 If they are correct that is total of 10335 between Mar '85 & end of '87, so it is possible that in one year more than 5000 were made...... |

You have to remember that the E28 535i was sold in the States too, so fairly big production numbers are definitely likely. As already mentioned, it depends how picky you want to be about specific models - the M535i was largely the same as the 535i with mostly cosmetic differences re the bodykit etc.
Andy - you could get an M535i in 1980, as I mentioned in my previous post, but it would be an E12 body, not an E28, so you won't pass an E28 off as an E12 to anyone... well, Stevie Wonder maybe! Also, E12 M535i was made in very limited numbers so if you have to prove high production figures for the model, you've had it - I think the total production over two years was about 1800, 400 or so being RHD. But I had one, registered '81, so they are out there. |

the e12 m535 was the first m saloon bmw produced, produced in limited numbers it was a big step up with its 212bhp 3.5lt engine ,m sport suspension and recaro trim from the 528 e12 witch was the top model at the time ive owned a e12 535m for 15 years and i still enjoy driving her it does a 15.1 quarter mile which is quick for 30 year old saloon and it feels a lot more lively than the e28 535 which i also owned many years ago

Thanks for the positive remarks. I put the same questions on the Pre 93 forum and that hasn't really gone the same way. Thanks again people.

I think people here are mainly talking more about the M series Tel, in the 93 forum they (we) were reffering to your original question that you wanted to run it with in the 535i 12 valve engine not the M 24 valve unit and I think herein lies the difference with the replies you are getting.
