Possum aims for World Gp N Championship drive

This from zenago.co.nz (a site I don't visit often)..............

Possum Bourne will get another chance to impress potential backers of his proposed Group N standard production World Championship bid next year when he contests the Alpine Rally north of Tokyo this weekend. Bourne is the third seed in his Subaru Impreza WRX for the all-tarmac event.
His increasing success as the season has continued has resulted in increased interest in his efforts from both Fuji Heavy Industries – Subaru’s parent company – and Subaru Tecnica International, the motorsport division of Subaru. “After we won the Hokkaido Rally last month, the Japanese were interested in the proposal for the Group N campaign next year,” said Bourne. “Then we won the Australian championship and they contacted me!” Success in the standard production class at the Rally of New Zealand against the class’s top drivers has brought more discussions.

And from possumbourne.co.nz
the result.......................

Possum Bourne has finished second in his Group A Subaru Impreza WRX on Japan's Alpine Rally held over the weekend.

The seven times Australian champion and triple Asia Pacific title holder was making his first appearance on a tarmac rally, despite more than two decades in the sport.

Victory went to the works specification Subaru Impreza World Rally Car of Toshihiro Arai, who finished nearly 5 mins ahead, while third placed Fumio Nutahara was another four minutes behind Bourne.

'I'm happy with the result,' said Bourne. 'We learnt a hell of a lot over the two days. Toshi didn't have any problems and his margin reflects the difference between a top World Rally Car and our much less modified example.'

Good luck Possum

It'd be great to see him in the World Championship at GrpN or WRC level

Yes. I think he should have been given the oppertunity years ago. But these things are so political.

Seven times Australian Rally Champion.
The Aussies are not THAT bad.
