Obama announces new emmisons standards
New emmisons standards have been announced in America for the automotive industry.
Under the proposed standards, manufacturers would be required to begin improving fuel efficiency by 5% a year from 2012.
By 2016, they would have to reach an average of 39 miles per gallon/6.05 litres per 100km for passenger cars, and 30 miles per gallon for light trucks.
It would seem to be very ambitous targets for the US auto industry. Does this mean the death knell of the big American V8 engine or does this mean that they get smarter about it and it's fuel usage.
