Can race fans help kids?
Fellow 10-Tenth-ers, on May 16 the annual Newcastle Variety Club Bash gets underway, covering about 2300km in a week and most of it on bush roads and tracks.
The Bash is for cars built before 1970 and three motorsport fans, Brent Davison, Bernie Roberts and Darren Cafe are running a 1966 Volvo 122S. Like every Variety Club event the Newcastle Bash raises money for sick, disabled and disadvantaged kids. Last year's event raised more than $400,000. I know every team running could post here but the reason I am posting is because Bernie, Darren and Brent are part of the "motorsport family". Bernie and Darren race speedway Super Sedans (650bhp, 1300lb and all on a 400-metre clay oval - you do the math on the sphincter-puckering factor) and Darren is also a gun sidecar racer. Brent is the motoring and motorsport writer for our local paper. And before you ask, yes, they have the only Volvo in the 50-car field and it is numbered, appropriately, 122 (that's so that when they get p!ssed they can remember what sort of Volvo they are in!). If any 10-Tenth-ers would like to kick-in a few bucks to help the guys please PM me. All money donated will be used by the team to pay fines along the Bash route and any left at the end will be given to Variety. Hope you can help the fellows with this cause. Thanks for taking the time to read this post, Stoned Pony |
