F4000 at Phillip Island next week ?????
Does anyone know if there is going to be a race in F4000 in Australia next week as planned in their calendar?? It is not very clear what is going on in that championship....

Agreed, those of us outside Oz can only assume that the championship's folded if they don't make the effort to keep us informed through the website. Last news was in January...

There was a brief report in this week's Auto Action about someone testing the new engine. Not all competitors will have access to this engine for the supposedly scheduled 1st Round.

They only need two of them to have every competitor covered with a spare as well at the moment. A friend of mine was going to be running this year, but sold his car as there was not going to be any others driving.

Apparently there are 15 drivers taking part this weekend... which would be more than I can remember.

I'll believe it when I see it! So they've updated their website at long last, but there's still no news on any drivers or teams participating... and no mention of what happened to those proposed Asian races in March and April.

Has there been any news in the motorsport mags today about it? (other than the mystery 15 cars!)

Formula 4000 Phillip Island
There will be 15 starter for Phillip Island and Super Touring driver Sam Dale will be in a Formula 4000 for the first time . I read this on the ozspeed web site .
These cars will be real quick with the lighter engine . F4000 site has almost no information , not doing the category any favours are they . |

I think they will be a long way short of the MotoGP at the end of the straight. It will be interesting to see how close the F3 times are to F4000.

Rob doesn't appear to be racing in the series this weekend.
And there were still only 10 drivers in Qualiifying, although not the same ten as in Friday's practice. |

McFadyen should absolutely dominate this series but in qualifying he's 8 tenths down. Makes me wonder if there is a mix of new and old engines on the grid.

Ty Hanger is no slouch, the 2 Hanger cars are immaculately presented, and dont usually want for preparation... so being as quick as they are isnt a bad thing.
10 cars on a circuit which is the reason the cars are actually here... is a pretty sad indictment on the category... as is the 16 second gap between them as well... |

It's also pretty pathetic that I'm finding the times on formula-3000.net rather than F4000.com, the official site. If they still have the ambition to to be taken seriously as a category surely they should make a better effort with their media exposure.

Not since about 2002 has the official site been updated earlier than the monday after the races took place. But it is more noticeable now that there are other sites which are getting the timing data faster. |

Well I don't know if it's just me, but F4000.com seems to have been offline since last night.
Meanwhile formula-3000.net is reporting that Neil McFadyen won both of today's races. |

F4000 site still not working, and have seen on racetime.com.au that only 3 cars finished the second race!?! Can anyone tell me what happened?

I heard the same thing but I don't know what happened.
Then again the timing system at PI was doing strange things. They were announcing that the F3's were doing times comparable to the outright lap record. I just noticed that any record of that race isn't on NATSOFT as well. |

See www.formula-3000.net/2005_h01_index.php for a lap chart - looks like only nine started, and most were eliminated on lap 3.
