Walter Hayes Trophy

WALTER HAYES TROPHY 2012
SILVERSTONE NATIONAL CIRCUIT
November 3-4

It's that time of year again....

Entry Forms and Regulations for the twelfth-running of the world's largest and premier Formula Ford 1600 event will be available in a matter of days....

I don't want to fall foul of plugging the event so the questions are.... Who is doing it, who is going to watch, who do you think will do it, who do you think will win....?

If you have any specific questions please email me on: BeckettJE@aol.com

OK James, explain the format to me.

Being in 1970 historic, i am assuming that there will be too many pesky modern buckets to qualify pat the first race, but there will be a race for histiorics that dont qualify on the Sunday - so should expect one race each day.

is there a risk that not all historics will get a sunday race, ie, we might end up with only 1 race on the sat?

Pre 82 Final

Great news James i know a number of pre82 cars are entering and look forward to there own final on the Sunday . Lets see if we can get at least one HSCC or Classic Formula Ford into the main final .Problem then is do they do the main final straight after the Pre82 race ,what a problem to have (i Wish )
What ever happens i will see you there .

FA73 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
My understanding from speaking to James the other week is that any Classic or Historic car that makes the Grand final (e.g Joey Foster in the Van Diemen RF78) will only be in the Grand Final and that the Pre 82 Final will be for those who do not make the Grand Final.

As far as I understand it - for all Drivers as long as you have not actually been physically put out by car damage/engine failure etc you will get a race on the Sunday even if is starting at the back end of the Progression Race because you spun off on lap 1 of your heat....

Also for Classic/Historic Drivers - unless there are more than 36 pre 82 cars that fail to make the Grand final but are still running on Sunday then you will also be sure to get into the Classic Final - with the Grid position being set by how you got on in the previous races run over the WHT weekend.

I am sure James can confirm all this though.

I am racing my Van Diemen FA73 this year - looking forward to it !!

Andrew - That is correct! You have it spot on.

After the semi-finals if any Pre 82 car (Classic or Historic) has qualified for the Grand Final then they contest that race and not be eligible for the Bernard Baxter Race. The top 36 Pre 82 cars (Classic and Historic) not having made it to the Grand Final will be eligible to race in the Bernard Baxter Trophy.

So.... In reality this will probably allow all the Pre 82 cars in the WHT to gain another race in the weekend! Good value for everyone.

To make sure that the 'few' older cars who make it to the Grand Final are not forgotten, they will be crowned as the winner of the class with a suitable prize to ensure that the aim for all Pre 82 drivers in the event is to reach the Grand Final.

Email me on BeckettJE@aol.com if you have any questions.....

McMuttley.... No, everyone races at least twice and now for owners of Pre 82 aged cars in all probability this will now be one race on Saturday and two (or more) on Sunday !!

Any more gossip....??

As you know, the Pre 82 Final is the 'Bernard Baxter Race'.
Last year this race title was run for the 'Last Chance' race but from 2012 on the 'Bernard Baxter Race' will form the Pre 82 Final.

Walter Hayes Trophy

Oh no - that means i need to think hard about which car to enter for the WHT - 1977 Royale RP24 or newly rebuilt Reynard FF88

or

Both - is that allowed ?

Blackcat - you can only enter one car in the competition yourself.... but you could lend your other car to someone else!! or hire it

Remember..... 'cheap' WHT entry deadline day is October 17th.
If you are planning on taking part in x2 days testing and the race meeting itself then make sure you book your entry before the close of play next Wednesday to save yourself some cash!

OK entered

In the Reynard - will be the first time it has been used in 10 years - last outing was in North America !

Only got to bleed brakes, clutch, finish wiring, seat, fit belts, battery, fire extinguisher, oil, water, gearbox oil , start her up, rolling road, ride heights, static geometry & corner weight - should be easy in evenings only !

Anybody got any basic set up for an 88 Reynard - spring rates & static geometry ? Please..........

Thanks

Chris

Walter Hayes Trophy

For the over enthusiastic 'spectator nerd' who will be there both days and ideally would like to know just what is going on, can anyone advise when the 'progression rules' as alluded to on the HSCC website will be up there?
PLEASE!!

Malcolm, you would not be alone as confused spectator nerd!! Basically the progression rules have always been available from the paddock office at the start of the meeting. They are not terribly complicated honest!
