I wouldnt have said "easily re-located"... there is a lot of work in pulling the place apart.... I thought perhaps Wakefield Park was a logical home for the pitlane... till they built their own....
... not sure who would want this one now... Mallala? |

Hmmm.. I don't think they'll have to worry about urban sprawl for a while. Mallala has some interesting corners and it's not a bad track at all. |

If Mallala got a facilities upgrade, they could possibly contend for a second Supercar main series round.....

The worst thing is that, with Oran Park going, Calder not in use, Lakeside sitting there, Sandown rumoured to close (though they are always saying that), there aren't really any new tracks in the pipeline. Some like the WA track proposed for the old Airport, has been bandied around for ages yet nothing has happened yet

TC doesn't want permanent race tracks so why should anybody build one.

Because TC will not reign forever, and when he chooses to depart, there will be a new world order..... come the revolution....

I wonder will Oran Park management empty the rubbish bins for the first time in 30 years before the bulldoze the place?
Oh someone mentioned that "whoever paid for the pist must be spewing", umm I dont think so cause he owns the land all around the place and as of Friday I think it would have jumped in value |

It was only a matter of time before the real estate dollar caught up with Oran Park.
And Premier Carr will not re-zone land for another racing circuit ...... unless someone like Frank Lowy throws in a wheely bin full of $100 bills. If TC whinges loudly enough, Carr might throw a couple of dollars behind a street race at Homebush ..... fat load of good that does Australian motorsport. |

Homebush Bay would be good fun.... although the drivers would have to watch out for all the white elephants crossing the road

I like the white elephants comment GTR, very witty, yet so true...
As mentioned earlier Mr.Perich was apparently quite keen to relocate to Badgerys Creek (the site of the now abandoned "2nd Sydney Airport") and put together a track not unlike Oran Park - I bet Bob "i don't own a" Carr won't want anything to do with it... |

They have to build a track out of the Sydney Basin, like up the Central Coast or Newcastle

The secret is to build it reasonably close to Sydney but to zone it and all the land for a long way around it industrial. That'll screw the noise monkeys.

It seems that Sydney has missed out of v8 supercars... as of 2005 there are no teams there... and the series seems very Melbourne and Queensland based.

The final race at OP will be sad time come the end of 2005. That track for sydney siders has provided some great motorsport moments over the years. I can remember when OP was always the Grand final of the ATCC, it was a special time.
As mentioned with OP going, there is only Eastern creek(while this has good facilities, it is hardly a true motorsport experience that was OP) and Wakefield Park. Maybe, they can re introduce championship races at Bathurst, haha Last edited by D.R.T.; 12 Dec 2004 at 12:10. |

Its only a matter of time before Eastern Creek gets eaten up by the suburb sprawl.

The circuit they had plans for over here in WA fell through unfortunately...(the local council decided to go for "urban redevelopment"(museum/police station) rather than race-track. I'm not sure if they had another location in mind, but I haven't heard any more about it.
A circuit has been built down south in Collie, but it's a fairly long drive and the circuit is pretty rough and ready from what I've heard. There's certainly room for a 2nd metro track here in the north-eastern area, just little impetus to make it happen. |

There is a nice race track located about 7 hours down the nearby Hume Hwy that would gladly take over the V8 round and a few other events.
That would be Winton, of course. By the way, I would be sad to see OP go as I was when Amaroo, Lakeside, Hume Weir & the original Surfers tracks closed down. |

Catalina Park is sitting there waiting to be used
How much of Warwick Farm is left? As a mark of respect for the Oran Park circuit, the developers should be allowed to start early and bulldoze the carpark section (GP extension) of the circuit and conduct all racing (yes, including V8Supercars) on the proper South circuit at Oran Park!!! |

More importantly, is there really anything left ?? I'm not all that keen on our State Championship events being 3 rounds at EC and 3 at Wakefield from 2006 onwards... |

Catalina is at Katoomba, and is an overgrown ghost-track. Interesting story in Motor regarding it and a couple of otehr old tracks, Gnoo Blas was another one.
