I agree with you on this point chunder.

It should be sprint racing and not a conservation and endurance event!

Next year's fuel regs are a great concern!

2hrs in an F1 car is an endurance event. Having driven 2hrs solid in a race car (albeit more slowly), it's not trivial.

Most sprint races are 20minutes...

Perhaps the spectacle would be better if the races were much shorter?

Since when is looking after tyres anything to do with F1 to any great degree? While it is a sort of skill, it is only part of recent driving to try and save twenty seconds in a pitstop, nothing else, it has nothing to do with looing after tyres while going quickly.

I didn't enjoy watching it and haven't enjoyed watching F1 most of this year.

If you are going to pick on people who don't agree with you, what on earth is the point of having a rating system? Isnt that the point of a rating system, or does the fact that I mention endurance racing mean you have to pick up on it?

That is what I believe GP racing should be about, the driver capable of driving fastest on the absolute limit for longest wins the GP!

Perhaps split the race into two heats?

The two race format works in just about every other form of motorsport, otehr than the perceived pinnacles, Moto GP and F1

It worked well in GT racing for a while too

But I fear F1 is far to set in its ways to change for fan benefit.

Well the degrees have changed, but it is often a great degree and always to some degree. Even more so if you include Grand Prix racing rather than just F1.
Granted, not in the way it does at the moment. But think '86 - Jerez and Mexico City are two memorably races where tyres were the defining moments. Think 1957 Nurburgring. I just when about 30 and 60 years ago without thinking too hard.
Oh and there was the 1906 French GP.

Don't pick on me for disagreeing, but no thanks. For me there are too many races anyway so a GP win is devalued. In addition one longer race allows for more interest, more nuances and more skill. It is more appealing gratification than two or more shorter races that may provide short term gratification.

As you say there are plenty of other forms of motorsport that have two race formats - no need to make them all the same.

Thanks, I've come across that before when I was doing some research on it earlier in the year. It might be where i found out about the tyres playi such an important role.

I drove round the 1906 circuit back in June. At significant corners there are signs that give the history and some photos. The circuit has more to it, and it is great to see that someone local cares about the history. Below are some photos of the signs and key parts. Even drove down a dirt track to follow the route as closely as possible. It was tricky, but is accessible - they opened it to the public again for the 100th anniversary.

It is a little off topic, but we were already off topic, I hope no one minds.

After all the guff a short while back about whether old drivers could race the current cars and vice-versa, I wonder how Seb would get on in the 12.9 litre version.......?
