Gitane GT
Hello to everyone,
I am trying to find out more about the Gitane GT - a pretty little sportscar that was built in early 1962. Alltough it had wire wheels, the powerplant was a 997 cc Mini-engine placed in the rear. The engineer who build it was Gordon Fowell and I think it was raced, or at least supposed to be raced, by Dan Margulies. The car is in the programme for the 24 hours of Le Mans that year, but I am not sure it ever made it to that race. Other enters were the 1000 km's of the Nurburgring (May 27, 1962) and the Trophee d'Auvergne (July 15, 1962). I believe the car is all British, but there also seems to be a link with Rome-based tuner Giannini. Who knows more about the car? Kind regards, Jeroen Booij. |

The car was used on the Hillcimbing scene in the UK by a chap called "podge" Dealey.

I can remember seeing the car at Podges in the 60's.Maybe Tony has some pics.
