On a similar note, DK never answered any of my emails while his site was still active over the last number of years.

But he would probably receive hundreds every week. He wouldn't have had time to reply to them all.

I would've been happy if he had replied to at least one of my submissions...

True, but when you tell people to contact you about taking over the site, and you get as many submissions concerning the site as we know has been sent, you should respond to them.

I fear that something may have happened to Daniel which means hes unable to be contacted at the moment. Wouldnt be the first time its happened to someone i speak to online (not that i speak to Daniel, but you get the idea). Hopfully that is not the case.

Well, he did say this in the announcement just before it closed:

Quote:
Over the recent months, it has become more and more difficult for me to find the time necessary to continue operating the racingcircuits.net website
He didn't say what it was - perhaps it's linked to his lack of contact with anyone

This is a possibility, a change of circumstances in his life or whatever. It doesn't really matter, the point is he's unreachable for whatever reason. As has already been discussed, every attempt has been made to contact him about the site.

The unfortunate thing is, this site will almost certainly never be updated. I wouldnt even know where to start in such a thing. Keeping up with circuit changes would be such a difficult thing to do i wouldnt know where to find the information and then how to put it online, even if i wanted to do such a thing.

Great stuff F1Freak

Perhaps we as a forum should help update the website by doing stuff for it

Here's one I made earlier - the recent Valencia proposal:

And I think this is what Imola will look like next year minus the Variante Bassa:

Actually, you've got me thinking.

I could probably create/accept circuits which aren't in the last update of RC.net.

I'd keep it a very simple site (pretty much what's there now), but at least all the tracks would be there in "RC format" (as I like to call it :P).

What do you all think?

Valencia update is up, but i dont know the circuit length, if you know that, post it and i'll say. if not i could try getting it from google earth or something.

I'll add Imola later tonight.

So how about it then? You guys give me the track maps and info, and i'll shove them up?

I think you should hold fire until you can be sure that copyright won't be an issue.
Making a backup available is one thing, starting to update it and take it on as your own is quite another.

oh, ok, odd. The site is a tad messy to say the least, i figured the only public details were on the contact me page, which had email and fax. I'll try and contact him (again)

Don't update the site. Copyright does come into play here I believe, I done some reading about it a few days ago (just to see what we can and can't do with it), and yea, don't update it.

When I drew those tracks up, I did a template for them as well, so I'll show you what I had planned (and as similar as it looks, apparently it doesn't breech copyright law, so I am doing nothing wrong). Only Durban is done.

Well, if we can make this "new" site work, great!

BTW, I'd double check about that Imola proposal. I seem to remember reading that the pits would be relocated to the other side of the start/finish stretch.

There were loads of rumours about that but the final proposal (from in Autosport) included the pits staying where they are now for now

About Durban, I believe the orignal proposal may have been used by South African V8 Supercars. There has also now been a seperate proposal for a Durban street circuit for GP Masters

You can use mine, if you want, F1Freak

Thanks jab. However, I won't use it as it's an overlay of Daniel King's work.

Well, I've made a minor update, and I am willing to continue on with this project. I'll accept information and try and do my best to keep it up to date.

I'll update the index site some time today to reflect this.

F1F, I'm not sure where to look to get good sized images, but the plans for that track at Pinto, Spain, I believe, are out (the proposed circuit that is supposed to have multiple cross-overs).
