Just been looking at the NZ 'Roaring Season' forum, and tripped over these pics of the entry list in the programme for Manfeild, 11-12 Jan 1986

http://www.theroaringseason.com/atta...3&d=1329716552

http://www.theroaringseason.com/atta...4&d=1329716764

Mostly names we're familiar with in this and the other NZ/AUS season threads, but one or two are new to me

#44, Tim Taylor in a Rover Vitesse in particular leaps out at me... I wasn't aware of any NZ Rovers apart from the TWR visits to the Nissan Mobil races, and Tim Slako's pink car making the trip at some point

John Madden should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
If I rember correctly Baigent's helmet came off in this shunt. As a consequence thereafter, scutineers made you don your helmet while they tried to pull it off your head by lifting the back of it. Good job it wasn't his nomex underwear that failed.

Yes, MalcolmC posted a couple of pics in the 635 thread from one of the NZ magazines at the time showing the Baigent shunt:

http://tentenths.com/forum/showpost....&postcount=801

One clearly shows his helmet flying through the air after it left the car- That was definitely a very big one...

29-12-1985 Baypark Park Round 1 New Zealand Touring Car Championship
Pole: David Oxton Ford Sierra XR4Ti
Results:
1st Trevor Crowe/Tony Longhurst BMW 635CSi
2nd Robbie Francevic/Mark Petch Volvo 240 Turbo
3rd Alan Prince/Mike Houringan (Jaguar XJS)
4th Paul Adams/Alan Wolf (Toyota Corolla GT 1.6)
5th Warren Burt/Jeff Pascoe (Toyota Starlet 1.3)

The Sierra's turbo blew on the warm up lap, so Oxton was a did not start.

Found results on Autosport October 31, 1985.

brendonwood,
I had no idea that there was a NZ privateer Group A XJS - thanks for the information!

I scanned this info for someone a couple of years ago when a restoration was rumoured, but I haven't seen the car return to the track.

If the car is restored, it should be brought over to Australia to race against the Garry Willmington XJS of the same era, which is now competing in historic Group A racing.

The car was back on the circuit at the Wigram Revival meeting at Ruapuna last weekend & looking outstanding. There was also further mention of it here:

Driven by Angus Fogg, who has prepared the car, possibly for Gary Johnson who races an immaculate XJS as per the Hulme/Hahne livery.
I'm not sure whether or not Christchurch based Gary intends leaving the car in Auckland (with Angus) so that he can nip up to race it in North Island events.

Hopefully, both will be at both weekends of the annual Hampton Downs Festival in January.

There's actually some quite good spectator footage of the XJS in question from a race meeting at Mike Pero Motorsport Park Ruapuna last year.

would any one have any photos or pictures of any scrutinising details that any of these cars had in this race or the Surfaces Paradise race in 86-87? as its me that has the John Jeffries / Bangle RS1600i (red, blue and white) back here in the UK..
