Guy local to me, James French' dad(his name is escaping me) Has a few.... last check he had a McLaren, a Williams, a Ferrari, and a Jordan. The Jordan is I think a 2002 though... the rest are all early 90's. I stumbled across his shop by delivering an unpainted carbon barge board. I worked for FedEx out of high school for a little bit, and saw it come down the sorting line. I saw the piece, saw the shipper and asked the usual route driver if he didn't mind if I delivered that, and a few other things...he didn't have any idea as to what I was holding, and I needed to see what this belonged to.

Needless to say, I was stunned when I opened the shop door and saw what was inside. There may have been an audible gasp followed by a bang when my jaw hit the floor... spent my lunch with him, chatting F1 and getting to put my hands all over some really nice cars....that subsequently launched my career in racing. Sometimes stumbling into something is all you ever need to get a start.

Presumably the technogumbies with lots of time & resources could emulate the effect of the dongle and keep the old software sweet...

Yep - it's possible - providing you know how the dongle worked you can create a software version of it. As you say it's time and resources.

To software specialists anything more than 5 years old is historic and 10 years prehistoric. We recently had that problem with a web designer and our Mac system.

Bernie has many of the old cars and I wonder if he keeps them in running order? He obviously has the resources to set up a suitably equipped "museum" for future generations to be able to follow what has happened in F1 over the years. Such a facility would be a great legacy from his life and times

I'm not sure if anyone seen it, but on the Autosport boards there a great thread on the Penske PC23 Indycar and goes into great detail the work that Paul Morgan and his company have done to restore into running condition. Link below:

A few years ago one of Jacques Villeneuve's 1999 split-livery BAR-Honda was in Melbourne, it may have been without the engine.
