No. I know you said BOP aside, but it was a huge factor. You might as well say, "Yes all the other cars were forced to run with square rims, but Ford had round ones so they deserve the win."

Yes I understand what you mean but it is impossible to equalizing the chances of winning with both old and new cars.
"Were forced to run with square rims" : because of the BoP ? I'm not sure. Some manufacturers want to keep their own square rims on their cars : I particularly aim Porsche with their obsolete architecture. I would like to tell Porsche that the 935 era is definitely over ; a design from 1963 with a rear overhang engine is completely obsolete. The 911 is a legend which govern their commercial strategy, ok, but other competitors don't care. That's why Porsche will a least change the engine position for next year.
Yes, Ford has round ones because their just bring some technical novelty and audacity in GT.

I won't make defense for the 911 engine placement lol. Straight out of the factory every car will have advantages and disadvantages. The 911's were able to shoot to the front of the class in the wet. As for the remaining 90% of the race, let's just say the BOP (meant to equalize racing among diverse platforms) made a few cars "more equal than others" to quote Animal Farm.

To a point I get what you're saying. The newer reg 2016 cars out performed the 2015 reg cars with updated aero. To a point the BOP last week was a little obvious.

If Ford win the WEC... I'd bet the program will cease operations. They've accomplished 95% of their programs goal by winning Le Mans.

Reguardless if Ford wins the WEC . Plans are moving forward unless something radically changes to run the same program in 2017 as same as 2016 .

Someone I trust at Ford told me that for 2018 , It is going to be Strongly CONSIDERED to go with Privateer Teams . Though I will believe it when I SEE it !!!

Sure, but, we both know that stuff changes at the drop of a hat when it's run as a pure marketing excercise.

Problem is, this doesn't carry the same weight as it did 50 years ago, especially with the BoP malarky. I honestly would have preferred them to bring Mustangs to IMSA and the WEC as planned and stayed in play like Corvette.

If they wanted the program to carry the same weight as 50 years ago they should have invested money to run in LMP1, instead of GT in some BoP class in the midfield of Le Mans.

Or tried to lobby ACO into having GT1-EVO again (I'm sure the likes of McLaren would have agreed with the sentiment)... it's not like their political influence to the ACO-FIA is lacking...

I totally agree. On a side note... McLaren may get their way with GT1-Evo type regs.

I will be the first to tell you that as far as Ford's Global Marketing plans go it is anybody's guess . The other part of the equation about this is I was also told that the FORD family still to this day still has a Vendetta ? against ENZO That in itself would make a good book or movie .
Had Ferrari had a full podium I tend to think they would have pulled the plug on the deal at the end of this year .
As far as winning the WEC from a marketing Ploy Not sure how much that would help . To Average Joe consumer the term LeMans probably carries more weight . I actually doubt that Average Joe Consumer even knows WHAT / IS : the WEC

Have the FIA and ACO admitted yet that their "data logger system" is complete joke yet btw?

Yes it is but Porsche themselves have been massive BoP benefactors ever since 2011 ish when they stopped caring about bringing best possible product to the racetrack, but just "this will do and the BoP takes cares of the rest". Though not quite to the level of Aston Martin of course.

Doug Fehan had interesting comment on Thursday.

“When we first started coming here, we ran off a simple table: weight, displacement, restrictor and then run what you brung. That was an interesting form of racing, but looking at the level of sophistication of today’s vehicles, the different configurations, front, rear and mid-engined, flat sixes, V6s, turbos, V8s – if we went flat-out, head-to-head, we’d just bring a Corvette Z06 and there wouldn’t be a series. We experienced that in the US in GT1: Aston, Porsche, Saleen: everybody came to run against us and we ultimately beat them all – we ended GT1 in the US. So trying to balance the different platforms is probably a pretty good idea.”

"Probably"... ...

Assuming the data-logger is the problem.. there are plenty of other ways to take time out of a lap that aren't logged, or loggable.

Sadly, there is a parallel with road cars and diesel admission testing. If you know the scope of monitoring, then you can engineer around it, and get results that fit the scheme desired.

This doesn't fascinate me, this mechanical poker game. I understand the need for BoP in the sense that you are lumping some very different vehicles into the same class, and wanting to give equal opportunity to each. I just have doubts that it is possible to have the playing field level.

That was mentioned a long time ago, the way I read it is that at the end of 2017 they'll decide whether to sell the cars on and support them or put them in a museum.

WEC, GTE Manufacturers Working On Revised BoP Process.
Hopefully they can find a good way to balance everything and not be as unfair as this year.
