Well done FIA, at least MRC could always fill the grid as they had plenty of drivers in reserve. You can't even manage that.

Nice to see Sam in the top ten, impressed with the Carlin cars as well, all four of them going well.

The two Chinese drivers crashed into each other on the hill.

They are alright.

George Russell claims pole. Ilott looks very fast in 2nd. da Costa 3rd.

Good to see Camara and Yamashita mixing it up there. Nasty crash for Gunther though...

Good showing from Da Costa as he's probably not driven an F3 car much since the 2013 Macau GP.

sounds like an absolutely righteous lap for russell, but iirc historically 2nd is better for slipstreams heading to lisboa...

hands up if you're going to set an alarm for this one?

I hope you're right! Young Callum Ilott deserves a good result!

What's the deal with the lack of performance in the Japanese cars? Yamashita's pace indicates that it's not the drivers, as he's been very quick in the euro-spec Threebond T-Sport car, but the Japanese-spec cars are at the back and slow. Sad to see Makino, Sasaki, Mardenborough and Tsuboi confined to the back of the grid and lacking pace.

Kenji Sasagawa (Team ZAP Speed) tweets the reason why Japanese teams were beaten at Macau.
That's because they are using default damper due to Japanese local rules for cost reduction.
In Japanese F3, damper modification is banned.
And yes.
Japanese engine is inferior to European engine.
But they can't modify because of engine homologation.

Aero modification also not take place similar reason too
of course they can use it in macau, but useless as nobody will invest this for once a year and won't achieve too
