Mallory? There were problems with noise and the old management were not entirely without blame. Suffice it to say there is now a new management who seem to be getting the circuit moving forward again. I thought the rallycross track looked quite neglected when I visited earlier this year but its probably not too serious and you would have to regrade it anyway. There were some complaints about the track but I think some drivers have got used to racing on billiard tables. Take a look at some rallycross videos from the 1970s...

I just haven't heard any local rumours about a rallycross return so I assumed the circuit hadn't been approached?

Will they adjust weight limits to ensure those 3 classes are fair? That would be a good idea...

I don't think many people complained about Mallory the last couple of times we were there, they had sorted the track problems out by then, and to be fair nobody was complaining about the roughness of the track. It was the fact that the stuff they used to make the loose had not been graded for size and content of the material used, there were half bricks coming up to the surface!!
Also the transitions from loose to tarmac were far too severe, there was no graduation at all, it was a totally square edge, and as the loose dug out it was like hitting a big kerbstone flatout. But fairplay to the track management, got it all got sorted out.
It would be great to see Mallory back on the calendar, it was central and easy for everyone to get to. The problem is who would run the meetings as it is not a BARC circuit? Would any of the clubs currently involved in rallycross want to do it (LHMC, MDA, DDMC), or would a local motorclub like to get involved?

Looking at the times from Croft the BMW Minis and Hot Hatches are doing very similar times, and so are the Swifts.
The Super 1600 times are more like Supernational

Fear not! Steve's first post on this thread only had the dates of the 2017 British Rallycross Championship, which finishes on Saturday 21st October.

The Grand Prix is a stand alone event and will be on Sunday 22nd October, immediately following the last round of the British Championship, as it has done the past few years.

Hope that helps, WJM.

Cheers, Steve

With regard to Mallory, I don't know if anyone has talked with Rugby Motor Club? They still run a lot of local events and I get a lot of emails from them. I was a member but work in recent years has meant motorsport stuff has taken a backseat.

All the regulations for the BTRDA (Clubman) Rallycross Championship can be found here:

http://clubmansrallycross.weebly.com/regs--forms.html

I don't think the 2017 regulations have been uploaded onto the British Rallycross Championship website yet, the 2016 regulations can be seen here:

Yes Steve, that's right, and it's being reworked by LD Motorsports, so maybe a little more competitive this year after a refresh!? Maybe! Jake deserves a good, competitive motor to go play with the big boys. The DS3 will have to do for now!!!!

Cheers, Steve

To be brutally honest the LD cars have never really been that good in the past. Skorupski, Tohill, Henning, Jeanny, not many guys have done much in any of them, despite being good drivers.

Probably OK for British rounds, but I would steer clear of any of his cars really, their reliability record is abysmal.

Post on Facebook from Dan Rooke:

British RX Champion Rooke takes sabbatical to focus on future progress

Reigning MSA British Rallycross Champion Dan Rooke (19), the youngest ever title-holder in the 40-year history of the Championship, will take a forced sabbatical in 2017 and wont defend the biggest prize in British RX as he focuses on the future.

Rooke scored three victories on his way to the Supercar title in his maiden season in the sport's headline category, and had hoped to defend his crown this year. However, due to a shortfall in budget, the rising star will now use 2017 to focus on progressing in rallycross long-term, with a clear target in his sights.

I had an amazing year last year and in a way its still unbelievable what we achieved, especially considering that were just a small family team from Devon, said Rooke. But the reality is that weve been struggling to raise the budget for another full season in Supercar at this stage. Because we won the Championship in such a strong way last year, we dont feel that it would be beneficial to my career to enter into the defense of the title and not be in a position to fight for wins and the Championship. Thanks to my great sponsors we have raised about half of the budget required, but not enough to commit properly.

The MSA Academy member raced an LD Motorsports Citroen DS3 in 2016, with the assistance of multiple British Rallycross Champion, Pat Doran. My goals havent changed. I still really want to progress in this sport and climb through the ranks into the World Championship. Im going to work harder than ever this year to build my experience of the whole sport. Im in talks about working with a team in World RX and Im also having discussions about some potential one-off races in rallycross. Im not leaving the sport at all, just trying to make best use of what we have. Were going to do some karting and autocross to keep me race-sharp in the early part of the year too.

Over the last 12 months, Rooke has also received invaluable support from Morris Lubricants, Outlaw Tools, AT Motor Repairs and his close-nit team, led by his mother and father. The guys who worked so hard to achieve what we did last year are as disappointed as I am that we wont be defending the title, but they have pledged their support to me going forward and that means a lot. There are several interesting and exciting things going on at the moment and Im working hard on the physical and mental side of my game too, so we can come back even stronger, that is for sure!
Real shame to read. I was hoping Rooke would at least return for the British Championship, if not make an appearance (or two) in Europe as well.

A shame but seemed inevitable really - the car last year wasn't covered in sponsorship so it was always a worry that the money wouldn't be there for this year - there's only so long you can run on empty moneywise and Supercars aren't cheap!

Any news on new entrants this year? Things seem very quiet.

Very sorry to hear about Dan - I just hope he finds a way to stick around in rallycross as he is clearly a big talent.

But, yes, it has always been the same problem - a clubman sport with cars that can be more expensive to run than those in the BTCC

I was hoping we'd have a few more entrants announced by this point as well. I posted this in the World Rallycross thread, but it may be relevant here as well:

Nathan Heathcote to race in the Doran C4. Adding to questions about what the Dorans will race, if anything, this year.

I saw on facebook that Dave Bellerby won't race the Fiesta (or anything else) this year, which is a shame. It's up for rent each round if you have the cash!

With no Rooke, and uncertainty with other drivers, thus could be the most underwhelming Year in BRX yet. Shame. Hopefully they get their heads put their bums and join forces with the BTRDA next year.
