A gem of wisdom from Ross Brawn !

Can you believe the things people come out with sometimes ?:

F1 Racing magazine is not normally the first place you turn to for a bit of humour, but the December issue has a real gem courtesy of Ferrari technical director, Ross Brawn. Reacting to the news that the fizzy pop team from Milton Keynes had lured Adrian Newey to join them, Brawn had this to say:

‘We’ve got to be careful that we don’t end up with the team who spend the most money being the team who win everything’

So, this would be the same Ross Brawn of Ferrari, who for the last decade have had a budget that would have been enough to buy a small African nation, a budget that far outstripped all of their rivals, a team whose driver salaries alone would probably have been enough to run Minardi, a team who own two private test tracks and the only team to refuse to sign up to limiting the amount of testing to reduce costs?

Classic...

Nice one Rob ... that is most amusing indeed !! Some people do seem to have the most skewed outlook on the world when they feel threatened or have been done an injustice ....

I wonder how Ross would feel if the points earned were weighted to the teams annual budget, thereby giving the minnows of F1 more reward for their efforts with such smaller funds available ...

Is it was a hint that Ferrari won't spend that much anymore ? Or maybe was he wanting to move to RBR too ?

We have to learn to read between the lines with these guys.

Ferrari in the past spent more than anyone - now they have a restricted budget compared to the mass manufacturers and the billionaires like Mateschitz.

Therefore Brawn's view has changed to reflect his own team's circumstances

But he was always very defensive of his teams spending when they were winning and everybody else was complaining ? Brawn may well have his teams interests at heart but, and I mean no disrespect, this sort of comment makes him a laughing stock..

That's possibly a bit drastic, but in principal I agree.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please stand - Ross Brawn the winner of the 2005 Hypocritical Comment Award...

Indeed, it's hypocritical, but there's a lot of that about in F1!

It just shows how far from reality the world of F1 is these days.

I guess teams are so insular they don't consider for 1 minute how the rest of the world percieves them, which is why the "sport" of F1 finds itself in the situation it is in today.

There is K-B, but to put it so bluntly and provacatively - is quite silly.

In my mind - Ferrari are your typical moustache twiddling villains - whom when things go wrong, simply - slanderize and demine their way out. Brawn is only trying to put pressure on RBR, however, the nature of RBR instinctively informs me that this tactic will not work on them.

Good point Joe.

F1 teams are very insular, and Brawn may not actually realize how the team is percieved by the masses.

It's definately a individualist sport, and certainly more a sport for the competitors than the fans, they need to find a balance.

That sounds better, though whats the betting that Ferrari (even though its a word not a trademark) try to lay claim to the word 'Scuderia' ?

I wouldn't have thought so.

RB seems to be pretty miffed with a team that is called RedBull Ferrari !

In a normal world I'd agree with you, but I really would not be surprised if Ferrari comment on this. Perhaps Herr Mateschitz should try his luck further and paint the Scuderia Toro Rosso cars red ! - joking..!

Did Ferrari ever actually spend more than the other teams during their run of success, once you factor in the cost of developing an engine as well as a chassis. or did they just make better use of the resources they had?

I've just had a thought ( shocking I know ) but I'd love to see a muppet or spitting image charicature of Ross Brawn and for that matter Jean Todt & Bernie Ecclestone. The resultant sketch using this story amongst others would be hilarious ...

I dont think Ferrari's budget is as large as everyone claims, and stems from a misunderstanding by people who report their assumed figures.

Well, whether or not their budget was greater, it is still an incredibly amusing thing for Brawn to say, particularly if he intended it to be a serious comment

That's probably true, but that's exactly what Ross Brawn is suggesting that Red Bull might do.

I agree, Toyota spend more money than Ferrari so the quote is not as funny to the fully informed members of this forum.
