Masters at Donington 23rd August 2009

Been waiting for this to be confirmed and just got the mail.Masters are holding a one day meeting at Donington,[yes, there will be a licence] on the 23rdAug.Looks like a real treat for anyone interested. As I cannot attach anything because of my laptop playing silly buggers,I'll leave those details for someone with a computor that works to do.

I forgot to mention that this meeting has been put together due to popular demand from Masters members,it is also one of the few "noisy" days!.It should be a cracking days racing for all.

There is also a special grid being arranged for CanAm cars which are not traditionally able to run (later cars anyhow) with the normal WSM grid. Will be awesome!

Thiwas the release from the Masters Club yesterday, hope to see you there.

MASTERS ADD EXTRA DONINGTON AUGUST RACE DAY – Sunday 23rd August

Masters Historic Racing today announce an extra race date for this summer, a one day only ‘noisy’ event at Donington Park, set for Sunday August 23rd – we figured you'd need a break from the kids holidays!

With this being the last season of racing on Donington’s present track layout, prior to the new circuit layout for the 2010 British Grand Prix, there has been quite some demand from Masters’ members for another chance to race sports, saloons and GT cars on the much-loved existing track. Given our persistent support in making our May Classic meeting happen, we have been rewarded with this rare ‘noisy’ addition to the calendar.

So Masters are now arranging a busy one day programme; with morning qualifying sessions, followed by an afternoon of classic action for our big World Sports cars, for the Gentleman Drivers GT grid and also for the Pre-66 Saloons, all organised and managed by Masters Racing Club under our own permit application.

The day will also include an experimental race, the “Interserie Revival” for the types of cars which raced in that early 1970s series, alongside other slick-tyred sports prototypes of 2 and 3 litres. Masters regular racer and well-known ‘big car preparer’, Richard Dodkins has been invited to put together a complete class of the Interserie/CanAm type of cars, for this special one-off invitation race

The World Sportscars have been strong throughout 2009 and we look forward to another epic battle over the 40-minute race – 2 drivers allowed!

The Saloon cars will be divided into 2 separate 45 minute races each, combining first the Under 2 litre Pre-66 Top Hat cars with the Oldies but Goldies for one race; and then the Over 2 litre Pre-66 cars with other invited Group 1 saloons, to form the second saloon race

The Gentlemen Drivers will all enjoy a 90 minute race, to the full 2009 regulations. In this race, the Sports Endurance 1950s prototypes will be welcome as usual to compete in their Lotus and Lolas, against the mighty Cobras and E Types, after their one-off Silverstone separation.

So, it’s a tightly run package of great historic action, all in-and-out on a summer Sunday! We expect to provide you all with a popular chance to say farewell to this favourite circuit, from all the Masters sports, GT and historic saloon cars.

Sadly nowhere for Gp2 saloons and havn't got tank capacity for 90min GD, so budget won't have to be stretched any further!

Will look forward to seeing what is entered for Interserie Revival!

Could'nt believe my eyes when I got the Masters flier. Had the Lola entered for the Interserie Revival by 7am monday morning !

Do you chaps that know think there is room for this and the Orwell Series in the Historic racing calender ? Personally, I hope that if Masters can make it work, there are a few more UK rounds than Orwell currently run.

Yeah, committed one of the most heinous crimes that I get annoyed about others doing; putting a double 'n' in it. Must be the excitement of it all. I will have to cycle the long way round to the pub today as a penance! As another aside, to get to Donington, I actually have to go through another one, from here.

Would that be the 'other Donington' that the Irish racers all went to when they came over for an Irish Race Meeting at Donington Park in the 1970's?

And presumably they drove past DP in the process (not that I am stereotyping of course!)

I've just checked flights and good old BA has doubled the air fair for that weekend! It means three days off instead of two and that would be a show stopper, particularly with Spa coming up.

Quite possibly, John! They would have found a very small, quiet village!

Aren't Touring 70s running with Proto 70s?
