name dropping for karts

In the racers forum at present there is a thread for name dropping. link is here

I thought we could do the same in here.

when you have been karting who are the guys you have raced against that ave gone on to bigger things in their racing career?

my list so far would be

1.Steve Owen (now in V8 supercars)
2.Marcus Zukanovic (Now in V8 supercars)
3. kim Jones (Manager of his brothers V8 supercar team)
4. Melinda price (Former super tourer and V8 driver)

thats basically it there have been a few others but no F1 drivers as yet

so who have you raced against that has made it big >?

Superliner II should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I've raced against Shane Byrne, current Motogp contender, last year. He was very quick but got a few warnings from the CoC for some dangerous moves.

Ryan Cannon (now in UK Formula Ford Zetec for Martin Donnelly Racing)
Was given a day's instruction by him at Kartstart in Aberdeen, shortly before I sat my ARKS test at Raceland. Raced against him for one season (2001). Had a bloody enviable karting record, including about 5 Scottish championships and 8th in S1. Also finished 2nd in a charity race in Vienna, ahead of drivers such as Allan McNish and Rene Arnoux, only losing out to Alex Wurz no less. Quite probably the best driver I've raced against, and definitely the one with the best racing prospects. Only moment I remember with him on the track was being lapped by him when I was having a miserable weekend at Golspie

Daryl McDonald (now in Renault Clio Cup, winner of Will Hoy Hard Charger Award)
Was the winner of my first race. Only moment he'll have noticed me was when I came into parc ferme in front of him at the end of a heat, because he was right on my tail to lap me as he crossed the line and I also received the chequered flag, and came in a lap early Don't think he ever lapped me in any of the races that day though

Unfortunately, as I already mentioned, with both of the above, I never really got a chance to RACE them, cos they were much more experienced/quicker whilst in their latter days of karting, while I was just starting up and obviously quite a bit slower Considering I've only been racing for about 4 years, it's not too bad a roll call eh? I'm sure that list will expand quite quickly over the next few years. There's some very talented drivers I've been up against, particularly in Jnr TKM S1, where Jenson Button, Lars Sexton and Anthony Davidson have all raced in the past, and I'm sure a lot of the drivers in this series will have the money, talent and connections to go far. We'll wait and see...

I havent raced against too many, altho my bro has raced against pretty much half the current V8 grid in either karts or F/Ford. Ive had fun at Corporate days with old stagers such as Terry Finnigan, Trevor Ashby, Richard Steigler, Mark Gibbs and Dave Attard. I do remember Paul Pickett of Mo Pro fame being in some Clubman races and one of the Ferriers and Kerryn Brewer.

Marcus if you have raced against Steve Owen etc, you may have raced the bro, lol.

ok cool, i havent sprint raced for a while, but karl and i are looking at Clubman for a bit of fun again. The 24 hour should be a load of fun too. Ive raced at most the car circuits around the country and many NSW sprint tracks over the years.

I have already had the luck to drive against a lot of F3000/F1 drivers, not in a race, but on testing days... Button, Heylen, Verdonck, Verstappen, D'Ambrosio, M. Schumacher, ea... All of them at Genk...

I raced in a regional series against Sam Hornish Jr for a few years, and also at those races watched Sarah Fisher and Danica Patrick race in other classes. Also ran against Casey Atwood once in Charlotte.

Daniel Laddiman.

Raced with him in Rotax last year and September this year he started T-Cars and has already taken 3 wins!! I think he got his first in something like only his 2nd ever car race. Is also the youngest ARDS license holder, a name to llok out for in the Touring Car scene
