GT3 Rally cars?
Been seeing alot of Porsche 911 cup cars being used in National Tarmac rallies in Europe and also remember these cars being alluded to in the new International regulations. So whats the deal with these and what categories do they complete in? What tend to be there competition and how do they compare with group N or even WRC cars?

The 2010 Monte Carlo Rally will have a class for GT cars. I'm not sure if there is a full series for GT rally cars though.

I think in places like Belgium and Holland they are just another way yo get rallying. They lok a bit sort of GpN ish in wheels etc, but Snijer was running one recently!!
They run stuff like 6 pot Beemers and Nissan 350Z aswell in some places. I think they likely run against GpN class, or maybe in a separate section but compete against the overall runners. Over here we have the Aston, am sure Higgy could win overall somewhere like Ireland or Manx. |

I doubt it - Higgins was using an Aston on the Richard Burns Memorial Rally and he wasn't that quick (after rejoining having retired on Stage 1 after hitting a Scooby ). The Aston was outpaced by the WRC's and a number of the 2wd entries. The Aston just looked like it wasn't nimble enough and couldn't be thrown around the twisty bits to any great effect.

It seems like a Interesting class, and could give rallying the much needed shot in the arm it needs. With less and less group n cars being produced (only Subaru and Mitsubishi) this could make for a great Euro tarmac championship.......... Panizzi in a Porsche anyone?

Well a single venie is hardly the ideal palce to judge a car like that.
I was thinking more about the stuff in Belgium and Holland where these type of cars are reasonably competitive. THey will rarely beat a GpN and certianly not a WRC, but can be top ten stuff and beating the quicker Gp4 cars maybe. |

I've seen "rally" Aston's used at Rally Day (Castle Coombe) a couple of times now and, on both occasions, the car has struggled to make it around the chicanes they set up.
Of course that could be down to the driver, but the car just looks far too bulky to be a serious rally weapon - it may be a different story if you're behind the wheel though! |

I really don't see the point in all those classes: a 911 can run an unrestricted 3.6 liter engine, while as a top of the class 2.0 WRC is restricted in a lot ways.
