There's an excellent photo of the aftermath available at http://www.oldracephotos.com/orp.html

What happened to the rule we had once upon a time that you had to race with the drivers side window wound down, in the event of an accident where the drivers door couldn't be opened, the driver could still climb (or be pulled) out?

This is what led to Peter Brock running a window net in the mid-70s

Was removed when Group A became the touring car category here. Too long ago to remember why it changed but it was definitely when Group A came in as part of the international regs for it.

True Pro but the window net isn't really designed to restrict neck movement it's more to keep the driver (& his arms & legs) inside the car in a roll over type crash.

I know of an MG racer who uses speedway style arm restraints on the theory that it will keep him tucked in nicely inside the car if he ever has "the big one".

I remember a VW Poto Cup race at the Norisring in Germany,
where during a accident, the driver's arm and leg were out of the window.
