Chicane jumping

I was going to say something about this in another thread, but thought I'd just check to see if I was right.

I'm sure most people here saw Ambrose jump the chicane during the first race and I thought I heard his team on the radio asking him if he completely stopped. Does this mean anyone who jumps the chicane has to bring the car to a complete stop before continuing or else they get a penalty?

I think you'll find that it's okay to keep rolling as long as you don't gain an advantage after jumping the kerb.

Yeah that's what I thought too, but when I heard them on the radio it made me think otherwise...

And yes it probably would be, less damaging too

They did tell him (I think the commentators made mention also) that at the drivers meeting that the drivers were told if you cut the chicane that you must come to a complete stop or you will get a drive through.

The first chicane is the most awkward and unnecessarily dangerous corner around. How many cars has it claimed over the years? Seton head-butting the steering wheel a few years ago as people parked in his boot just caps it off.

That was in the second chicane. A few people spun there or nosed into the wall, but nothing major. Although the drivers complained about the tyre stacks, they seemed to do the job of slowing people down. Plus for the most part, the kerbs were very low this year- in years past people who crash because they got flicked off the track by them, but that didn't seem to be much of a drama. If those chicanes weren't there, the cars would be doing warp factor nine into the brick wall at ANA

As long as you don't gain an advantage there is no problem.The "suggestion-not rule" was that if you gain an advantage you must come to a complete stop.Don't believe everything the Commentators say.

How about:
When skipping a chicane, you must either, come to a complete halt OR lose one position.

Obviously, if the person cuts the chicane, losing one position will surely take away any sort of advantage gained.

I think they should use that penalty for many different things, not just drive throughs all the time, the drivers are too damn careful now days.
