Better point them in the direction of the CTCRC as we do allow a 1500cc Kent engined Anglebox to race, a 1200 or 998 in apps K trim is surely a waste of time as it will never hold a candle to a good Mini (or even a bad one!).

Bloody shame that Ford never actually made a 1500 GT Anglia as a precursor to the Mexico as it would have had a wonderful sporting history and would probably have sold well to boot.

Would have been a super wee car. They almost did! as I had one and so did lots of other people I know. But not done by Ford.

It may surprise you to hear that Ford did actualy produce a 1500GT Anglia, brand new and straight off of the production line in 1966,only thing is,they didn't know about it!Finished in Silver Fox,Anglia Super complete with LC front legs and wheels, they even tried the LC rear axle, but just used the diff.
A very good but nameless friend was working in the Drawing Room's at Dagenham, there used to be several 'Specials' a year built for some employee's. |

Al, if I remember correctly the Broadspeed and Superspeed Anglias were usually a match for the Minis in 1966 and 1967 in the 1300cc class. Even Fitzpatrick's 1 litre was a match for the 1 litre Minis if not the Frazer Imps.

1966 Fitzpatrick's Broadspeed Anglia won the 1 litre class (and the outright championship) ahead of the Fraser Imps of Ray Calcutt and Nick Brittan.
In the 1300 class the Cooper Car Co Mini of John Rhodes beat the Superspeed Anglias of Mike Young and Chris Craft. |

I had a 970 Cooper S once also had 1071's and 1275's and 1275 GT's and I loved the 970 best of all, not as fast no but a joy to drive. I also had the same engine in an original Lotus Super 7 I bought for £40 believe it or not that was delightful.

[QUOTE=morninggents;2635776]I have no idea to be honest. You could well be right, all I know is that in the '60s (and the '70s) a hot 999 mini in the right hands was very very quick. There was one in Ireland (no idea who drove it) but it took something very special to beat it, unless it broke something. The achillies heel of the mini! I would have one today except that every one I ever owned broke something in the drive system.

People have probably read this, but just picked this up elsewhere on t'interweb regarding the AppK/E Type series that is being arranged for this year:
"I really hope the Graham White of the HSCC is able to generate a grid of cars that are correct for these races. Historic sports car racing has become what we used to call mods sport racing in the late 1960's early 1970's. This has luckilly been recognised by the Ben Cussons and Carol Spragg who have launched a new series for pre '62 genuine GT Cars running to period specification. A typical FIA Appendix K car racing today bears little or NO likenes to how they actually ran in period. The worst offenders are sadly the 'E'Type and AC Cobra followed by TVR and Marcos. As this article is devoted to the 'E' Type lets take a look at a typical one? It will have a reproduction bodyshell in thin guage aluminium, a reproduction wide angle cylinder head, a reproduction lightweight engine block and be running specialist steel lightweight crankshaft, rods and pistons. The differential will be housed in a magnesium casing, the LSD will be a special with altered ramp angle etc. and so it goes on. There is nothing on some of these cars that ever left Jaguar at Brown's Lane. They are total replicas but adorn so called 'Historic Racing' grids. If this series is to attract the real cars to come out then the entry rules need to be set out now as the ownwers of these original cars do not want to be on the same grid as these re-creations. Todays organisers have let them in and need now to show them the way out! Lets hope we get some good ones out! " |

Well said that man, noticed how these cars ,for some reason, dont have to be called 'Continuation'!. Good enough for Lola's etc.

I feel another thread coming on. I race a 1962 E Type. So I am declaring an interest. My view is that only twelve lightweights were made. Eleven survived and I understand the Lindner Knocker car is undergoing its second re-incarnation. These and many other fabulous vehicles ( eg GTO Ferrari) are considered by their current owners too valuable to risk. I believe that the racing of perfect replicas adds to the the racing scene in the absence of the original cars. It also allows impoverished old farts such as me to realise their boyhood ambitions. What better outcome could a historic racing series have?

I agree,RE,"Perfect Replicas". No modern upgrades, just exactly as they were would be passable.
