Trivia: coldest Le Mans ever?

Some of us probably experienced some of the hottest weather at Le Mans or know of some of them. 2000 and 2005 for example.

But what was the coldest you can remember or on record if anyone knows that one?

I know that 1968 since it took place in September that year will probably be the winner, but what was the coldest summer Le Mans?

I imagine the wet ones were pretty cold. 1995 will be up there. 2007 was pretty cold during the week. Absolutely none of my clothes dried out until I got home that year.

not sure the year but early 200's i think, we kept the BBQ going with fire cones and charcoal and sat around it drinking, crawled into tent and sleeping bag fully clothed with breathe showing every time i breathed out. must have been close to freezing that night. Daytime was none to warm either but seem to remember it as being a very dry year with no rain for the whole week

It was bloody cold. Ever since then I've taken thermal long-johns, extra socks, thick jumper and I bought an insulated coat. I was delighted not to have to wear most of them this year!

I've marshalled Le Mans for over 20 years and 2011 was the coldest - we had a thermometer that showed 4 degrees that Sunday morning. It was a cheap chinese christmas cracker style thing tho. Official records for the airport show it as 6 degrees. https://www.tameteo.com/meteo_Le+Man...ual-26120.html

I remember being present at the first Le Mans Classic, back in 2002 which was then run in late august or early september.
I'll never forget we were standing at Arnage corner, somewhere deep into the night, waiting for the top class group which sported the then Bobby Rahal's Porsche 917K 'hippie car'. There were 7 of us, including two gendarmes. One couple stood huddled together under a blanked they brought and we were cold to the bone! Luckely I'd brought a bottle of Jameson antifreeze which was passed around to keep us few slightly less cold, including the two gendarmes!

The cold wait was very worth it though. To see a 917 and a 512 floor it out of Arnage in the night, was a spectacle that hadn't been seen in Le Mans for 30 years and was my first time seeing a 917 in anger and at racing speed. I was blown away by the fact this car easily matched the ferocious acceleration of the modern sportscars

I'd echo 2011 myself, took extra layers because I go camping quite often in the UK so am prepared for any occasion and it was still cold! I think the 6 degrees sounds right, I remember RLM saying something similar. During the day it was pretty warm though. Most annoying thing was that it was dry all throughout the week, but rained the last night after the race meaning I had to put the tent down wet the following morning! GRR!! Was hoping I'd get away with not having to unpack it when I got home but nope.

2008 was cold too.

2012 was cold in the small hours - I remember it being something like 6 degrees at 5am.

The first ever edition was held in late May and I recall reading that the weather was pretty atrocious that year too.

Somewhere there must be a local recording of temperatures for Le Mans, which can be found online.

Sure someone consistently minded could effectively mine this and come up with a conclusion, at least for recent years.

Did enough mining to conclude 2011 saw the lowest temperature (in recent years), 6 degrees, but wind chill plays a part too. Like others, I can remember feeling quite shivery at TR, as early as 9pm on a couple of occasions. TR is definitely more susceptible to wind chill since the landscaping was raised.

TR always seems chilli first thing in the morning, first task for the first person up is to put the kettle on for a cup of tea. But then again that would be the first job for any englishman abroad, can't think of doing anything else before the first cuppa
