My manager (Marcus Grönholm) now to survey the situation of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. The choices are pretty low, says Joni Wiman. One option may be the Folkrace, which is called in Finland name Jokkis.

Not sure if anyone else is interested, but for those of you keen to learn more about the Polo GTI Supercar I just noticed that the latest issue of Race Tech magazine includes a full feature:
https://www.kimberleymediagroup.com/...-issue-rt-199/ The recent rallycross car features in the magazine have been good, so I have just ordered a copy! |

Wonder if you see a detailed picture of the engine bay, seems to be top-secret!
Even when the team replaced a left rea wing in Hockenheim last week, a man was standing there with a blanket for a few hours to block sight on the car's inside! |

I bought a digital view of Race Tech as I love these kind of stuff. I really doubt the engines are just 650 Nm, this would be lower than most non finalists. Also it reads Hannover build engines - like the Beetles - but I thought Andretti bought some rights from Trollspeed (and IGMAB) ? I am now reading the Julian Godfrey section, who knew that the 45 mm restrictor - with lesser output - would create more stress on the engine block? Interesting to see what they try to do to prevent this.

If the others have 900Nm torque, the VW's should have the same.
As a UK magazine, are they talking about Nm like "we" do or Ft/lb... 650 ft/lb is almost 900Nm! |

It stated 650 Nm on a 86 broke x 86 bore engine (it reads a TSI engine)

My copy arrived last night. Really good read and interesting to see that VW haven't ruled out the use of the rear radiator setup.
I also got the issue that covers the OMSE GRC Honda. I had assumed that car was effectively a re-shelled Fiesta so I hadn't read much into it, some clever ideas in the car though, especially with the suspension setup. |

I've read that too, but I couldn't figure out if the custom engine was Honda based or not

So no Polo's engine bay pics?... even the engineer of Munnich Motorsports didn't let me take engine photos to the Ibiza in Montalegre...

Looking at engines is over in RX... Seems to be Top secret!
Sven Smeets (VW Motorsport) stated in an interview: "Coming close to drivers and teams is the DNA of rallycross" |

LDM engineers were happy to let me take some shots of the C4 engine bay earlier this year, but that isn't a front running World Championship car so it figures they are more relaxed about it. All of the World teams I have asked in the last 12 months have said no to engine shots. It's a shame a view of the engines isn't as accessible, but I guess the teams are keen to hang on to any little edge they have! Last edited by tbtstt; 19 May 2017 at 10:49. |

Remember being in France about 10 years ago and Olivier Anne getting very aggressive with someone trying to take a photo of the engine which had been removed from his car.
Its not that new all this secrecy |

Just one incident though and doesn't reflect the sport at that time.

Yeah, bugger, he probably refers to the autograph signing sessions (which I consider something for the kids). Still can't see the problem as all the secret stuff like cams, compression ratio, mapping and ALS isn't visible anyway from the outside. For me the cars have always been the star, all great driver names wouldn't be that great if they drove a stock hatch. |

I would say VW have the biggest reason for secrecy as they have tried something really different with the Polo. I fully agree with this though. It was the cars themselves that first brought me to rallycross and, although I really like the way some of the famous drivers handle their cars, I'd be just as happy seeing an unknown driver thrashing the cars. For that reason it's a damn shame that we can't learn more about them! |

Some testing pictures posted on the Loheac Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/loheacrx/po...03096613110667 Couple of interesting shots of the PSRXVW Polos: The car in the background looks like one of the rallycross cars, but the Polo in the foreground looks like the 2017 WRCar test mule... ...some sort of comparison testing going on, or has the 2017 WRCar been adopted as the test mule for the rallycross program? |

Is not VW using the 2016 WRC chassis on the 2017 WRX cars? They got a taste of racing in a simple way.

No more rounds for Guy Wilks this year. Real shame to read that he won't finish the season, though I must admit I was hoping he would have posted some better results this year.
EDIT: Just seen that Alistair McRae will now be driving the Polo in place of Wilks! Last edited by tbtstt; 23 Aug 2017 at 11:25. |

To be fair
There is little point in him carrying on, he has absolutely no chance of a result and neither does McRae, Alister has just been tapped up to go there coz of his surname, he rarely races in top level competition anymore. Certainly not at the pitch of something like WRX. WRX has very quickly become a have and have not series, you could easily have won a WRX event a couple of years ago in Wilks Polo with some luck and good driving, not anymore. I think they call it progress!! |

Of course the team behind the car (and potentially some of the running gear in the car?) have changed for Wilks. |
