Here it is - http://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/0...-pictures.html - At first glance I have to say I like it looks a very neat and tidy design.

totally agree......love the short stubby exhaust outlet either side of the fin.......very efficient design the hot-V engine layout......hope it flies and they sell a load more.

Looks like they will have employed a short stubby Y-piece to divide the flow either side of the fin......if you look closely at this image
http://www.dailysportscar.com/2018/0...-pictures.html you can see both exhaust are angled, and must be linked to the same turbine outlet......its still single turbo for sure |

Something I always wondered, what effect do those exhaust guards have when designing/tuning the exhaust system?

To be honest, even I am flummoxed why the mesh guard are even present at the exhaust outlet, and not just a clean exit, this also seems to have been used on the Mechachrome demo engine in the press, so perhaps something unique to Mechachrome and the GP2 engine?.........I havent seen this technique before, even on a race motor.......But I will say that Mechachrome are not renowned turbo specialists, so perhaps it was something that the Turbo supplier talked them into.......BS baffles brains

Look like the things that are stuck in the exhaust pipes of Super GT cars, which on those cars has something to I think with the cat converters they run.

Could be a mock exhaust. As you look closely you can see these ridges on the inside. Can't remember ever seeing ridges like these in an exhaust, but i could be wrong of course.

I'm confused, I thought everyone claimed this thing was 100% dead already?

You have BR already testing and Oreca building something for Rebellion. If you are a customer, what would you choose?
A car that still hasn't made a shakedown on a racing track from a newcomer who built a LMP3 2 years ago or a car from 2 manufacturers with a good proven racing record building prototypes in LMP2? The Ginetta maybe great on track, but they need to show first it can be as quick and reliable as a BR or Oreca to get those customers. |

You can't buy Oreca from the shelf yet, Rebellion will be their 'special customer'. When Dragonspeed wanted to commit to Oreca they only had vague "we'll see I don't know" answers for supplying, which isn't exactly convincing and which is why they went elsewhere
So realistically that only leaves Ginetta and Dallara (well I guess also CLM) and while the Italian outfit sure was quicker to get things going and not screw around, I don't think it's particularly any safer choice... their build quality in LMP2 has also been just as shaky as Ginetta's in LMP3 Hopefully all of these chassis - incl Oreca - make it to the collective 30 hour test at HTTT |

I thought some more Ginetta LMP1 teams were going to be announced at the Autosport Show, but obviously not.......perhaps they want to see its real speed in a test first?.........
first WEC race is 5th May, so its now less than 4 months to the first race........I feel its probably now too late for any new LMP1 teams to commit?.....or am I mistaken?..... |
