2015 MSA Formula, certified by FIA, powered by FORD.
2015 MSA Formula, certified by FIA, powered by FORD.
Good calendar, tasty looking car, reasonable costs, big team support so what could possibly go wrong? |

The name's a mouthful though! Looks like Enaam Ahmed, Jack Mitchell and Lando Norris will be there from what I've heard/read(/imagined?!) so that's some talent already!

The two less inspiring but officially confirmed signings are Jack Butel from Protyre Formula Renault and Ollie Pidgley from the Clio Cup. I think autosport confirmed both Norris and Ahmed, too, which are mega signings.
Also, Daniel Ticktum was highly impressive in the BRDC F4 Winter Series testing sessions but he will be too young. In case he still wants to do single-seaters, MSA F4 is the only choice (in the UK). |

The name is a mouthful but who cares if it gives good racing and is seen as a good place to be.
My concern is that costs go through the roof because the big teams throw money at using simulators or rig work to be ultra competitive. |

Yes, but what are those of us in the real world going to call it?

So is this the old Formula Ford Championship re-badged for the Formula 4 series without using the F4 name?

It's a series using the same, but remapped, to meet fia f4 spec, engine, with a new Mygale Carbon fibre tub, to FIA specs.
Run by the company that had such great success running FFord for the last few years. |

Surely you are not suggesting that they could mess this up. although after reading about the registration fee and the entry costs you might be right. "the championship registration fee will be set at £2500 with an £1100 per meeting entry fee to cover pre-race testing, 20 minutes of track time for qualifying and three 20-minute races at each of the 10 events." |

Agree with brakedisc, this really could be an epic season after a few years in the doldrums.

8 drivers confirmed at the moment... I didn't expect the MSA Formula & BRDC F4 could compete together with in both series a lot of cars, but it looks like it will work

8 drivers registered is very disappointing considering MSA Formula are claiming the production run of 32 cars are sold. If this is the case there are going to be plenty of spare cars lying about.

One advantage with MSA formula over BRDC formula 4 is that if you win the title you are 25% of the way to a super licence. this is going to appeal to all of the F1 minded drivers. anyone finishing in the top 5 will get points and this could be crucial in a few years time.

Worth pointing out that unless someone is planning on going from MSA Formula straight to F1 (bearing in mind that 15-year-olds won't be able to following the 'Verstappen rule'), they'll more than likely rack up enough points during their time in F3/GP3 and FR3.5/GP2 to discard the 'National F4 Championships' allocation. The 15-year-old hotshots will still be making their F1 debuts well before their 20th birthdays

Personally I don’t think it’s a disadvantage to BRDC F4 that MSA Formula receives points towards the F1 Superlicence. Drivers at this level are making their first steps into single-seater racing and it’s extremely unlikely that they’re going to graduate from F4 to F1 in three years, making any points scored in MSA Formula redundant. Points scored in GP3/F3 and GP2 will be much more important so I don’t think points will be much of a factor when deciding which series to run in.

Entry-level championships usually don't make a lot of announcements months before the start. We are "lucky" MSA and BRDC are competing each other, that's why we have 8-10 confirmed drivers for each championship. But, I only know one-one driver of the French, SMP and Italian championships and also just a couple of ADAC F4. There are still tests to be run and budgets to pull together. There is nothing to worry about at this point.
