On 3 June 2016, with 25 minutes to go during Free Practice 2 for the 2016 Catalan Moto2 Grand Prix, Salom crashed in turn 12, resulting in the session being red-flagged. The accident was not recorded by MotoGP cameras, however a security camera near turn 13 managed to get a footage of his accident. His bike hit the air fences and bounced upwards, while Salom (who has let go of his bike) ends up sliding directly underneath the bike, causing the bike to fell down right on his body. After being transferred to the local Hospital General de Catalunya, Salom died after an operation due to the injuries sustained in the crash. As a result of his death, the race will use the layout normally used by Formula One, to reduce speeds in the part of the track where Salom fatally crashed

RIP. Terrible accident by the sounds of it.

Think that's the end of that corner. Shame they can't just add a longer run-off to it. Sensible decision to not use it for the race.

This idiotic thing of removing gravel to make the tracks more forgiving, for mistakes, is foremost irresponsible/reckless

The dumbed down series doesn't even take that corner anymore(for almost a decade now), so there is no reason, whatsover, for letting tarmac there

Nothing will change though and the asphalt run offs will remain just as trendy as this will be just labeled as "bad luck" or "freak accident" kind of thing

PS: On Moto2's QLF, Morbidelli and Lowes went out on Campsa but the gravel there did it's job and held them way before the wall

That pretty well echoes my thoughts. (They're actually talking about taking the tarmac run-off at Parabolica away for the Superbikes with their return to Monza.)

I went and found last year's MotoGP race, just in case we never see that corner taken in anger, in a series that sees broadcast TV, again.

Absolutely devastating to loose Luis, such an incredible talent who was, for sure, a future GP world champion.

What I found incredibly disrespectful was the BT Sport commentators, constantly complaining about the new F1 chicane, about how rubbish it is, and how they hate it. Considering the circumstances and why that chicance was being used in the first place, I found it very disrespectful and I expected better from the likes of those two.

Great to see VR46 winning again, and also the end of the animosity between VR46 and MM93. It was a very good thing for the sport.

Also another disappointing thing from this weekend, Lorenzo not bothering to give his input to the safety meeting, which happens at the same time every Friday of a weekend, you cannot claim you "didn't know" when you have been in the sport for that many years.

I agree too they should just put gravel in that corner, it won't affect the F1 layout. It would be a shame to lose that great corner from motorcycle racing. As was said the gravel in turn 9 did it's job

It's also good for the sport Vale and Marc have ended their feud, maybe Rossi was embaressed by the way his fans were behaving towards Marquez

Remarkably mature ride from Jack Miller, his parc ferme interview made go a little emotional. Always good to stick one firmly up the detractors!

As for Moto3, congrats to the Italian motorcycle federation, they have done a very good job with their young riders. There are a lot of them! A model for others to learn from perhaps.

What a turn up for the books ! now why didn't I put a tenner on at the bookies for Miller to win at 700/1 !!!. Marques also had his sensible head on and increased his lead as well. Shame Vali fell off when he had it in the bag but hey ho that's racing and congratulations to Jack for keeping it all together in the conditions.

He did ask for my autograph

At last

Wow! It finally happened in Austria. Ducati victorious in MotoGP for the first time in six years. And a double at that

Great rides by Iannone (1st) and Dovizioso (2nd).

Great to see Ducati one two, was a good race with a six bike train for most of the race, only separated out at the end.

Lorenzo must like the look of his new bike!

I didn't realise it had been that long a wait for Ducati; time flies. The racing was very good for the most part but at times, I couldn't help feeling the grid looked quite small. Great circuit though.

Great to see Cal Crutchlow take the win at Brno even if it was achieved through an inspired tyre choice. The guy's a fighter that's for sure.

Well done to Cal indeed, a very mature ride in tricky conditions. What about Iannone's tyres in the closing stages? Holy cow.

Changing the subject a bit, I presume Ducati have a test track which they can water and then send Lorenzo out on it to ride until he can't ride anymore?

If Ducati test, they invariably do it at Mugello to be honest.

I love it when we have new winners and the first time in 35 years we have a British winner. The current grid is the best in a while and I have to say that the state of the championship is not bad for the fans who love the variety

Just what is it about the wet that Jorge seems to not like? Has he always been like this in the junior classes?
