Very short sighted of silverstone, if it is an issue with circuit fees, as over the years the RWS must have been the best advert silverstone could have for attracting new people to the sport. And the chance to tempt them back to events where silverstone does get the gate money. I really hope circuit fees is not the issue, and that its some other short term reason like the olympics, and we get it back in 2013 |

Could it go back to Donington if there's anything on that Bank Holiday date up there?

Also LMS left Donington because of pit lane issues, although I can't remeber what they were. The only UK venue capable of hosting these meetings is Silverstone. Personally I like Silverstone a lot and enjoy being there, although I can see problems ahead if FR3.5 and WEC abandon the venue this would start a chain reaction of other events looking elsewhere, and as I mentioned, no other venue can cope. Brands Hatch has it's NIMBYs and it's space limitations, Donington has the space but not the infrastructure or funds. It is Silverstone or nowhere in the UK |

i think the current pitlane is very difficult to use with big flat cars like single seaters and prototypes because of the stepped garage exits - not impossible by any means, but tricky. can anyone elaborate on that?

But if it isn't the whole WSR package the crowd won't be anywhere near as big, no matter what it cuddles up with on a racecard which wouldn't be such a problem for an alternative venue.

it depends on whether they get garages too. at monza, it was one team to one garage which made for a very cramped pitlane. you *could* swing a cat, but it had to be a kitten. if they were to share a bill with something larger, the only place with enough garage and paddock space would surely be silverstone?

Ah yes hadn't thought of that. If the series they piggy back onto is 'bigger' that series will have first dibs on the pit garages and where would that leave the 3.5's?

A dream ticket for me would be FR3.5 and WEC at Silverstone. WEC use new pits, FR3.5 use the 'heritage' pits. Perfect!

When they joined the LMS in Portimão in 2009 the FR 3.5 teams were in awnings and it didn't seem to be a problem.

wouldn't be possible at donington unless they've relaid the paddock recently. it was potholed to say the least in 2009... i'll guess the paddock at portimao was as smooth as the proverbial babies backside!
at monza they would have been better off taking the very spacious paddock instead of the garages, which they shared with autogp and wtcc. and 'wec' in the single seater forum still means 'western european championship' from fr2.0 so you'll have to spell it out for us endurance newbies |

Maxim Travin, manager of Nikolay Martsenko, says that even though Max Travin Racing Team wasn't selected for 2012 season, Martsenko will race in FR3.5. He already has the budged needed and is negotiating with BVM-Target and ISR.
http://openracing.ru/news/4873 Martsenko tested with BVM-Target in Montmelo and was 21 on first day and 20 on second. |

Travin also says he still wants to enter the series and is planning to buy one of the teams selected for 2012 season. He's ready to use up to 2 million bounds to get what he wants. If the buyout succeeds, the team will keep its current name in 2012 and will be renamed as Max Travin Racing in 2013.

why is the guy so determined to buy into it? is it a matter of having a big sponsor to promote at home, or just an itchy wallet?

Everyone goes off the rails at some point around here but Maxim is taking it to the next level. He should have bought the Malaysian team.

Kevin Magnussen is to race with Carlin in 2012. Judging by his form in the recent test he should do very well as a rookie. The results don't show it, but he was the quickest driver in BF3 this year, also the unluckiest, which is why the results don't show it.
What's interesting to me is that at one point Carlin were said to be very keen to retain the services of Felipe Nasr, but that's obviously gone away. |

RWS have posted on their Facebook page, that they are not coming to the uk in 2012, because of the Olympics.
So I suppose that means the TBC event won't be in the UK Shame, but fingers crossed, if that is the real reason, then the series will get to return in future years |

remember "world series by renault" and "formula renault 3.5" aren't the same thing. they explain world series by renault isn't going to the uk. we've known that since the calendar came out.

anyway the statement from renault on the world series facebook page below "World Series by Renault is expanding to new countries. For budgetary reasons for the teams participating, the series cannot presently be expanded, so one existing event will have to be dropped from the calendar in 2012.... In summer 2012, Britain will host the Olympic Games, involving a major infrastructure of human and logistical resources. Therefore, it was felt to be desirable to hold World Series by Renault during this time. The decision not to hold a World Series by Renault meeting in the UK in 2012 has been taken jointly by Renault Sport Technologies and Renault UK." I think they missed a "not" out of the statement. |

I think so too!
They certainly did say on the final Eurosport magazine programme that they'd be back in the UK with F.Renault 3.5 as a support race. |

then at least some of my flapping isn't in vain it's amazing how many don't notice the difference, particularly some very prominent drivers press officers. it's a very obvious sign of those who don't care about the quality of their work and their clients.
back on the missing out the uk thing, it will be very interesting to see whether they carry the momentum through to 2013, and what sort of people come back after a years break. will the... casual spectators have forgotten about it? it'll be interesting to see. on the other hand hopefully it doesn't affect the involvement of some of the sponsors. the massive crowd at silverstone is a real draw, and a great example of how you can spread your message better on the ground with freebies and event association better than you can with a name on the side of a f1 car. |
