The crash of Henry was completely different.. there is nothing you can do if something that weighs that much hits you on the head with 200 km/h. All the insurances in the world could not have helped Henry sadly

yes it is obvious insurance couldnt help henry but Chris Van der Drift is alive and everyone should be happy for this reason.
maybe if chris didnt have the insurance its the fault of him, or maybe its the fault of the manager. maybe we will never know. But i believe if the manager is a decent man and a good manager he will give chris the help now when he needs it most and not leave his driver in this situation. Its normal to help especially if its true the manager keeps the prize money. No one knows who his manager is. Maybe he hides himself because he’s ashamed? |

It's not that simple.
Commonwealth citizens (which Chris is, being from New Zealand) who are resident in the UK (he lives in Northampton) and have a work permit which allows them to be employed or self-employed in the UK, are entitled to free treatment on the NHS. So either he was here without a work permit (in which case it's all going to get worse for him because he'll be deported next), or it's just the non-NHS rehab which isn't covered. |

Regards Jim (Ordinary residence is a complicated legal concept but none of the complications would seem to affect this case. IMHO and INAL of course (but I have had, in a previous incarnation, to struggle with the concept of ordinary residence.) Last edited by JimW; 30 Aug 2010 at 08:27. |

Anyway, this tread was not meant to be about Chris' legal status of citizenship

official press release, which now seems to paint a far less passive aggressive picture, and suggests the funds are for a specialist course of treatment:

Don't be misled by that Press Release when it refers to a start time of 17:00.
That's when the competitors arrive. The gates are not being opened to the public until 18:30. I've just been notified as someone will probably attend. |

Correction: public access will start at 18:00 and the event itself starts at 18:30.
