Coal Mine Challenge

As we all know, a combination of depleting resources and increasingly strict regulations are making coal mines unprofitable. Further, the companies that operate the mines are being obliged to make their land reusable for other purposes.

That's where we come in. As you would expect, many coal mines are in rather hilly areas relatively far from permanent settlements, just perfect for us. This would also create jobs where otherwise there would be none for all the track staff and the tourism it would (hopefully) bring in,

Many closed mines are in the middle Appalachia region in the US, areas throughout the UK, and China has stated it intends to close a four digit number of mines this year.

Tacoma, VA, USA

It is surprisingly difficult to find the specific locations of closed open mines in the US. I've drawn up five layouts around the old mine in Tacoma, Virginia because it took me forever to find any location at all. I suspect it will be a while before I bother again.

In this context, it should not be overlooked that the old karting track of the Schumacher brothers has since given way to the open coal mine Tagebau Hambach.

That is deliciously ironic.
