2009 Valentines Day Suggestion - Donate!!
I know this isn't motorsport related but it is Aussie related so please humour me for a couple of days Mods.
With Valentines Day fast approaching and the usual waste of money associated with it I heard a great suggestion on the radio driving in to work this morning. Instead of buying your Valentine a bunch of roses or box of chocolates how about giving him/her a receipt saying you donated money to a bushfire charity. It was also suggested that if he/she doesn't understand that the person doesn't deserve to be in a relationship with you. As I type this the official death toll for the Victorian bushfires has reached 173 |

Actually if you really DO want to buy chocolates for Valentines Day, maybe send them up the mountain.... I'll bet they will be getting bucketloads of clothes and tins of god-knows-what, which is great, but a simple luxury like chocolate might really brighten the day of someone who has just been in hell.

Along the same lines as what PVDA suggested, CAMS has established a fund for the bushfire victims, so perhaps you or your valentine can donate to this fund?
A number of members of the motor sport community have been affected by the fires, particularly in the rally fraternity. Donations can be made at any National Australia Bank. Acct Name: CAMS Bushfire Support Appeal BSB 083 166 Acct: 83-304-2862 CAMS has chipped in $25,000 to get the ball rolling, so hoepfully everyone can dig deep and we can make a real difference to the those affected by this tragic situation. |

Just a small question, is that CAMS money being donated, or is it actually from the "Rally Clock Funds"?
I hope it is CAMS donating in addition to what has been pledged from, what is essentially the Rally Fraternity's money. |

The money is being donated by CAMS Ltd, it's not from any fund that they might manage on behalf of the sport.

We live in Hurstbridge about 8km from the closest fire so last Saterday arvo/night was a bit edgy for us.
Unfortuantly 12km up the in St Andrews my inlaws lost everything. If you want to know how hot it got, this was their tinny. http://s689.photobucket.com/albums/v...t=P2120042.jpg Amazingly I have friends in Kinglake, Kinglake West and Flowerdale who all escaped the fires with their lives and houses. |

I know drifting is not highly followed on this forum, but two regular drifters, one of which was a Drift Australia driver were killed in the fires. Nathan Charlsworth "Charlzy" went to his good mate, Luke Jacobs house to help him defend against the fires, both were killed along with Lukes parents. The Drift community has been devastated by this loss, and as a result this Saturday at Winton, VicDrift and Winton Motor Raceway are doing some fund raising for the Bush Fire Appeal.

Geoff Portman got through OK but I hear at least one rally competitor lost his car & spares in the Kinglake fires.

Members of the Spooner family were lost in the fires, I believe they were involved with the under 2 litre sports sedans (?)

Jodi Mason lives at Kinglake, from what I have been told his gardens burnt and his car in the driveway, apparently the Charger, his house and himself survived.
