Double points for the 500 milers

With fewer ovals on the schedule this will increase the emphasis on being a strong all around driver to win the championship.

Good thing. So the oval races are still in focus. And perhaps some guest drivers will be interested now because they could catch points agains rivals of other teams.

Excellent news on the Triple Crown! I love the double points.

Now, I think that the points scale in the Bump Day and Pole Day is too long. The polesitter may get up to 42 points and the 33rd qualifier 1 point. That gap is too large.

I'd do somethin less radical, like 25-20-18 points for the first row, 17-16-15 for the second, 14-13-12 for the third, 11 for fourth, 10 for fifth, down to 5 points for the last row.

Here's the official press release. There's some very important fine print:

Quote:
The Manufacturers’ Championship format mirrors points awarded to the top five drivers (50-40-35-32-30, plus bonus points and Triple Crown special scale)

The 10-grid-spot penalty is removed. Instead, 10 points will be deducted from the manufacturer’s total for each occurrence. Entrant-initiated engine change-outs will result in the loss of 10 points.

An unapproved engine change-out by an entry will result in it starting from the rear of the grid in the next race.

Personally I think that double points is too much. But I don't hate this as much as I hate F1's attempt at it.

+1

The F1 and NASCAR systems are artificial to keep the championship going and is so fake. But the Indy version is more rewarding. In fact, back in the day they used to give different points to different lengths of races. E.g. 5x for 500 races IIRC.
