As I understand it, there are no track limits for any IMSA series all weekend--IMSA doesn't have the personnel or the tech to actually keep track of what is happening on track.

Every time I see a car running off the track--even though I know what is going on--I relexively tense.

My wife--definitely a Non-Fan--glanced at qualifying and she had the same reaction. I told her why it was happening and she cracked up---and asked if it was racing from a third-world country, if they were too poor to keep track of their own event.

I suppose its the only way to be fair to everyone rather than only catching half of the infractions. Just makes me wish that circuits still had grass on the backside of the curb so that track limits would be self monitored rather than needing intervention from stewards. Obviously, safety takes precedence, but would love to have a way to make running wide be a detriment to pace.

If the track works better using the extra paving, put some serious curbs way on the outside of the "runoff" (which is no longer providing any safety benefit anyway.)

On a more positive not, good to see the Shank car running among the leaders.

The heat took 2 seconds from the protos. Even with that abuse of track limits. No wonder theyre keeping up with the wec cars.

That astroturf on the outside of turn 19 took a beating last year. It was torn up and spread out on the track for both the IMSA and WEC races.

Nicky Catsburg in the GT3 Lamborghini at the PWC race in April ran a qualifying lap of 2 min 4.2 beating the GTLM pole time today by Tandy. Track temps I guess?

Everybody had track temp issues today. The GTLM and GTD cars were slower than last year. The PWC GT pole time in April was better than the GTLM pole time. The WEC GTE pole was 16th on the April PWC grid

So any one know if this is going to be streamed on imsa.com or anything? Looks like I might not be able to watch this race or the wec race without fs2.

GTLM should be more of what we are used rather than the Porsche domination at Road America and VIR. Granted any of the 3 Porsches could win today but BMW, Corvette, and Ferrari have small chance.

Did you hear Oliver Gavin's sigh interview during qualifying. He really was down on his luck about their chances. I think they are better than he thinks. As long he does not screw up.

We're away.

MSR P2 swallowed up at the in-out on the first corner.

Good start Porsche is 1-2-3 and lapping faster than all of the LMPC cars, Mazdas, and Delta Wing in fact.

Shame the track limits aren't enforced. I was hoping to see some comparisons between this and WEC, but now it's impossible.

This myth again? These "turds" lapped at the same pace as WEC LMP2s in qualifying. Get a grip.

FCY didn't take long. Looks like he's beached on the kerb almost, but that can't be the case in this veritable sea of tarmac.

I don't mind an early FCY. Closes the GT cars up with the P and LMPC cars.
