Asian Festival Of Speed (Australian Round)
The Asian Festival Of Speed includes the Formula BMW Asia, Asian Touring Car Championship and the Carrera Cup Asia.
The Australian Round of the Asian Festival Of Speed is meant to take place in Perth Western Australia on the 10th and 11th of September 2005. I have a couple of questions: 1.Where in Perth will the Australian round of the AFOS be? 2.Which of the following will the Australian round of the AFOS feature: Formula BMW Asia? Asian Touring Car Championship? Carrera Cup Asia? |

Will the race be on a street circuit around Perth?
If so, where exactly in Perth will the race be? what does the circuit look like? |

Aussie in Formula BMW Asia
In 2005 there will be an Aussie driver racing in the series. That driver is Michael Patrizi. He is the first Australian to win a Formula BMW Asia Scholarship.
After winning the 2002 Australian Karting Championship, Patrizi raced in Italy in 2003, in the European and World Karting Championships. In 2004, he competed in his first Australian Formula Ford season, in both the New South Wales and Victoria championships. |

I have been told that the Beijing round is not safe either. The reason being that Golden Port's license is up for renewal, but they are going to expand it for Champcar and A1GP in 2006 so it won't be renewed this year.

Does anyone know if there is still any chance that rounds 9 & 10 of the Formula BMW Asia will still be held in Bunbury. I really hope so because I really want to go to the race and support Western Australian Michael Patrizi.

It might end up at Hidden Valley but even that's a long shot.

If you ask me, I think F BMW should have one China series with an overseas round in Malaysia and one Middle East series with races at Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar. The China series should have races at Shanghai, Beijing, Zhuhai and Macau.
Australia probably should have its own series, too. The current situation where the series visit one country once a year is too expensive and hard for drivers to find sponsors. How can entry level single-seater drivers find sponsors for a multi-national championship that travels half the way around the world? |

My Formula BMW Australia Race Calendar would be as follows: Rounds 1 & 2 Adelaide Street Circuit (SA) Rounds 3 & 4 Pukekohe Park Raceway (NZ) Rounds 5 & 6 Barbagallo Raceway Wanneroo (WA) Rounds 7 & 8 Mount Panorama, Bathurst (NSW) Rounds 9 & 10 Symmons Plains Raceway (TAS) Rounds 11 & 12 Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit (VIC) Rounds 13 & 14 Hidden Valley Raceway (NT) Round 15 & 16 Surfers Paradise (QLD) If there where an Australian series there should be races in South Australia, Western Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and Northern Teritory. |

What? Another orphan open wheeler series to add to the others?
What would possibly possess you into thinking that a FBMW championship would be a good idea for Australia? |
