What is West?

I remembered seeing a list of sponsors in Formula 1 this year and Mclaren's big sponsor was West, but it said West in parenthesis next to Reemsta. So i looked up Reemsta today and found in an article that started "Reemsta Polska, the second largest domestic cigarette producer," and so it looks like it is a big tobacco company like BAT or something, which amuses me because i remember at Indy last year when Ferrari and Jordan had to take the sponsors off their cars, but obviously no one knew what the hell "West" was so they left it on. Pretty funny...

In the US, tobacco companies can only sponsor 1 series.

Marlboro appeared in CART with Penske so they had to be taken off the Ferrari's. Same was obviously true with Jordan.

West however didn't sponsor a championship in the US so they were allowed to stay on the cars.

I never US law applied even to international series? Just b/c Marlboro sponsor Penske, they have to pull their sponsorship from the Ferrari team.

Which makes me really wonder, how many international companies like HP/Compaq or HSBC can step up to replace all these tobacco related companies... Would you want to wear a McDonalds Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 Racing team gear??

Which company logo would look good on a black and/or silver car? A high tech company would probably be the best fit? Intel or AMD?

Alcoholic beverage companies - beer mostly - will become the next big title sponsors of motor racing.

Mclaren had Marlboro-owned Yardley in the late seventies or something?

I don't beleive that Yardley is owned by Philip Morris, Intl.

Yardley sponsored BRM in 1970 and 1971 and went to McLaren for 1972 and 1973. (Ironicly, when BRM lost Yardley, they gained Marlboro in 1972 only to lose it to Mclaren for the '74 season.)

AMD PROVIDES Ferrari
Intel is Williams Tech partner, and its software ran at compaq, now HP... nowadays developing a Microsoft .NET app.
SUN PROVIDES McLaren .

If Shell doesn't increase their sponsorship, then on this is the time for Coke to arrive F1

My questions now... William lost last year Nortel and gained Fedex; this year or early 2003 will be losing Worldcom.
Who will enter the wagon?
Does Fedex got to remove their sponsorship at Indy?

I think you'll find that whatever country you are in you have to obey their laws!

Hence why no cigarette or even alcohol advertising is allowed in France.

They are now, since they run in the IRL. They couldn't last year because they were running in CART at the time, as with KOOL who couldn't have their name on the Team Green cars at Indy, because they run in CART.

What about, er, birth control devices? Seems to me that'd be an ideal sponsor for some drivers anyway.

[To be rude about it, perhaps Preparation H could sponsor Irvine?]
