SGarage should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
TOP 10 TC drivers

I think it would be interesting and fun to hear different opinions about topic.
The idea is to make a vote out of list of TC drivers. The criteria I think should be not 2008 results achieved, but experience of the past years. I'm talking about the drivers who's on stage now. If everybody agree I'd suggest these names to be voted (listed in alphabetical order):

T.Bjork
F.Eckblom
F.Giovanardi
R.Goransson
N.Larini
J.Magnussen
A.Menu
J.Muller
Y.Muller
M.Neal
J.Plato
A.Priaulx
T.Rustad
R.Rydell
G.Tarquini
J.Thompson

Dirk Muller.

I know he's now spending his time in a Ferrari. But he used to be a great driver, almost champion in ETCC/WTCC.

I think this list underestimates the extent to which the guys in the WTCC are the best. The series includes champions from virtually ever major series and drivers from virtually every major European country. Ignoring DTM as those aren't really 'touring cars' in the conventional sense, my top 10 would be something like:

Priaulx
Y Muller
Giovanardi
Thompson
Tarquini
Menu
Huff
Farfus
J Muller
Gené

Honourable mentions to Jackson and Coronel in particular - Tom's lack of a full works SEAT drive probably sums up their perception of him.

Guys, I meant strictly TC drivers, not DTM, sports or any other series. And I've proposed to make a vote, not just exchange opinions. Let's ask our admin to create a vote like this -

driver place 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
1.F.Giovanardi x
2.Y.Muller x
3.Menu x
4.Bjork x
etc.

And then we'll see

There has been a poll running on Crash.net to find top touring car drivers. Giovanardi was voted top for the BTCC, which isn't a shock I guess, but i wonder who will end up top in the WTCC given some people don't agree with the diesel rules etc.

Zanardi and Farfus are both in the top ten, although i'm a little surprised to see Zanardi ahead even though Farfus didn't have a great year.

Zanardi ahead of Farfus? Shows that people aren't looking at prestations on the track in their votes, they just get blinded by Zanardi's personality. Don't get me wrong, I have huge respect to the person Zanardi. What he has achieved is fantastic and an inspiration to many. But the driver Zanardi simply doesn't belong in the top 10 of WTCC drivers over 2008, and most certainly not ahead of Farfus.

stedevil has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Indeed, once Farfus gets his head screwed on properly (so he doesnt put himself in situations that take him out of the race on the first lap) it's going to be 1 heck of a task for any other driver to challenge him for the championship. He is just blindingly quick.

AGREE!

He has this blindingly fast racecraft, he reminds me of a young Felipe in F1. But he seems to explode in a burst of confusion, once he matures..

He will really hard to catch

I don't see Farfus maturing anytime soon. He is totally reckless, whereas the Massa of old was simply, err, feckless.

I agree Farfus is accident prone, I feel Thompson would be a better fit as the more complete driver..why Chevy,Seat or BMW have not taken him up for 09 yet is beyond me.

9 S. Hernandez

But I would also mention Mat Jackson, he just needs some more maturity.

1. Andy Priaulx. 3 WC's in a row, wat's more to want?
2. Fabrizio Giovanardi. Smart, fast and almost faultless. Try to find a video of his first Vauxhall-win in Knockhill 2006 for some evidence. Has won 8 titles already.
3. Alain Menu. Only double BTCC-champion in it's haydays the ninety's (well, 1 was technically in 2000) and still one of the best drivers of the world. He is probably the most confident and relaxed of them all.
4. Yvan Muller. What a car-control. No wonder he was unbeatable in ice-racing to, just as he was this year in touringcars.
5. James Thompson. Great driver, great fighter, not afraid of some unorthodox choises, as for instance showed at Valencia, where he changed the setup of his car completely different compared to everybody else. And with what a result.
6. Augusto Farfus. That man is fast! Can be number 1 in a few years. But he has to learn some things to achieve that.
7. Tom Coronel. Has worked wonders once in a while with his slow underpowered little Seat.

The rest is to close to call.
