Forum's Own "Pick 'Ems" Indy 500 Race Thread

OK....here is how we'll do it....

The DEADLINE is SUNDAY, MAY 30, at 6:01 a.m. (Greenwich Mean Time), which will be one minute after Midnight and officially the first minute of "Race Day Morning" itself in Indianapolis....

Remember, your "Fantasy Five" picks will serve as your "Top Five" for this one...and you can STILL Change those as of right now on the IRL site...

Please pick the following categories:
(Note that I'm Leaving Spaces for You...Copy this list and paste it into your response so that you don't forget to answer something...)

1. The 2004 "Indy 500" Winner (2 pts.)

2. The Top Five: (Please Repeat your "Winner" from #1)
(2 pts for every Driver and Place Correct, 1 pt. for Top 5, but incorrect place)

3. Driver who will Run the Single "Fastest Lap" in the Race (2 pts.)

4. The Actual Speed of that Fastest Lap (2 pts)...
Carry it out to the one-thousandth place like IRL Scoring does:

5. Leader at the following Race Milestones (2 pts. each correct at the actual Milestone):

100 miles (Lap 40):

200 miles (Lap 80):

250 miles (Lap 100):

300 miles (Lap 120):

400 miles (Lap 160):

500 miles (Lap 200):

4. First car out of Race (2 pts.)

5. Best "Mover" of the Race (from slowest starting spot to highest finish): (2 pts.)

6. "Backwards Fall from Grace" in the Race (fron highest starting spot to worst finish): (2 pts.)

TIEBREAKER:

Pick the "Average Speed for the Race" (to the one-thousandth):

NOTE: We had ties last time, but only two of us picked a "Tiebreaker"...Please remember to do so....

We'll do this in the same way as we did the "Pole Thread"...so if you picked the "Race winner in #1, you also will get the 2 points for that name in #2 and again at "500 miles" in #3...please keep them consistent....

There are some differences among the picks - some have included a pick for the leader at the 250 mile mark, while others haven't.

Since it was included in the guidelines posted by Tim, it might be a good idea for those lacking that pick for the 250 mile mark to add it.

Just a thought

I know that I should have waited to submit these until after Carb Day, but what the heck....

A Few Notes:

I like a lot of the picks above....good thoughts from all.....

and the way the field actually lines up this year, there are many good possibilities for the "Best "Mover" pick...from mid-pack guys to people near the back of the grid....

NOTE:

For everyon who has not posted yet:

The easiest and "Best" way to ensure that you do not miss answering something is to "copy" the portion with the "actual Pick Questions" listed in my original post and paste it into the "Reply" box....

You can easily cut out or erase any explanations, etc., that might be in them, and those added notes could help you with your selections...

Thanks!

C'mon, Climb.....

Take a shot at it!!!!

If you give each element a little thought and merely look at a print-out of the grid, you can make some pretty decent guestimates....

There are lots of people here in Indy who do pools, draws, or betting that will offer many of these questions as "bonuses" or whatever....

I'll usually stick a buck into a "Draw," but I usually end up pulling someone from the last row or two....

I can see my hnad now reaching into the bag and pulling the name "Marty Roth" out.....

IMPORTANT

ONE ADDED NOTE FOR ALL TO CONSIDER:

Please give me input on this.....I'll do what you decide is best in this matter....

Since there is a possibility of "Rain" on Sunday, Jacques Lazier is the "stand-by" driver if Robby Gordon has to leave Indy for Charlotte...

Since it is the "car" that qualifies (per Indy 500 rules), if Robby has to "Go" at any point during the race (or it it has a late afternoon start due to drying the track, etc)...

The Questions:

Do I count what Jacques's results are for anyone who picked Robby Gordon???

Or do those people who had Robby in any of their picks take that chance of losing two points for any pick that includes him????

I have Robby in my Top Five....

I'm an optimist that either we WILL run the race and finish it in time on Sunday for Robby to get to Charloote, or that it will be a complete "washout" on Sunday and that Robby can come back on whatever day the Race does run....

It doesn't matter to me either way.....I'm willing to take the risk by picking him....

Your thoughts???/

Quick NOTE:

Sorry I haven't posted results yet, but the tornado that hit Indianapolis Sunday evening missed my house by about 300 yds....

I lost power until this morning....

I'm dealing with a flooded basement (no power = no sump pump) so I'll get the results posted within the next day or so....

Thanks for your understanding...

BTW....what an awesome race!!!!!

Just wish it would have gone the full distance....but lots of passing and good action
