Can't remember last year's numbers but bear in mind in 2015 the Friday and Sunday were very wet (dry and warm Saturday) so it's not surprising that this year's Fri/Sun figures were up. I do recall on Saturday (this year) thinking there crowds watching the races around the Wing area were less than last year but difficult to gauge the whole event from just that location.

I'm still trying to forget the cold and wet days last year! Your reasoning is sound, though. Some if the HF1 guys commented on there being less spectators in the wing paddock, but as they are often moaning about them getting in the way, would have thought it would be a bonus!

A reminder- 'highlights' on ITV4 tonight 2100 or 2200 on +1......

ITV4

Watched the programme tonight. Better than some produced on the Goodwood events although it is difficult to cover a weekend in the hour of the programme. My gripe is the sloppy script. For instance there was confusion over the Interserie of the 1970s with the later races in the mid-80s and the Toj (Team Obermoser Jorg) being designed by John Tojeiro (he of AC Ace fame).

We had 100 cars on our Club stand last year and about 75 this year.I did feel that the 2015 event was a bit of a damp squib - and not because of the bloody awful weather on Fri and Sun. The programme felt very deja vu but 2016 saw a real improvement -the place just had a real buzz.

I neither know nor care how many people turned up but it was lots - and it's an event which shows just how decent motorsport crowds can be. Football gets its police presence ,drunks and fights , and even BTCC is chav heaven these days. Yet the Classic has 100k like minded enthusiasts- all happy to chat , whether a driver, fellow spectator or ever helpful 'race maker' - it's a pleasure to attend and a real shop window for the sport. Thanks to Clarkson and the Top Gear demographic , motorsport fans are often stereotyped as knuckle dragging idiots - reassuring that the truth is very different. (but do Top Gear fans watch motor sport at all or just ..ahem..hoon?)
