North of Watford,?passport territory. You,re right Gordon,we could set up an International Escort(help) Agency.
Mike,careful it does'nt go viral.
Seems strange having a day off,Ring was a millionaires exclusive playground yesterday.Supercar Heaven, you name it,it was there.Fell in love with the latest Aston(who would'nt!!!!) Just had that special quality about it.Still think the Kings Egg looks a bit 'kitcarish' though.Goes fairly well though

Mike:

A quick one before I rush out and forget!

Check and test the bottom ball joints in the struts. Another prime cause of wheel shimmy.

Uncle Henry was one of the first to introduce the "Sealed For Life" type ball joint bearings. Of course, Ford didn't tell you how short was the actual service life!

Check the lateral movement as is; then; Nut off and break the taper fit (This is where your big hammer and crowbar come in handy: although, personally, I use an air hammer - saves sweat and knuckles, gaiters and seals ).

Rotate the ball joint taper end 180 degrees and re-assemble.

Test again.

All too often due to poor lubrication, the ball wears a flat on one side and allows significant lateral wiggles.

Anyway, here's the inner track control arm bush as removed. Car road tested and back to how should be!

Change of Y- Fronts required from the sound of it, although the mention of 'lubrication' has me puzzled.

Oh very good, bauble.

However, the lubricant in question was usually HMP Lithium grease.

That said, in your case, I suppose no doubt KY Jelly might well be more apposite?

No Sid! It tastes horrible, I much prefer raspberry flavour.

I think a bit of quality West Country cheddar in place of the poly would have lasted longer!

I'm puzzled why the right hand side failed and yet the left was perfect when removed. You'd think with the only race tracks car has been on being clockwise, the left would take more punishment. Only difference is that the exhaust manifold passes above the crossmember on the right side, so likely a bit hotter in that area.....

That must have been one of the cheapest cures for a "major" problem you've had for a long time Mike. Unfortunately it never cured mine that has rose joints

Yes, although the new bushes were nearly 50 quid! Worth it if they last a bit longer..... Just relieved I can hand the car over to new owner in fine fettle, rather than with a question mark hanging over it!

Different colour..... According to the blurb they are the best quality available, have a thicker section sleeve with thinner bushes, and are different manufacturer. I'm thinking the nasty rubber bushes Henry supplied (that have to to pressed in) would likely last longer....

I hope the bushes you've bought are purple (or black) as the Powerflex ones carry a lifetime guarantee...

Yes, black is the colour.... I'm sure the guarantee will exclude racing, although that's what they are sold for.....
