911 Racing
Hi John, hope you don't mind me posting this.
We are currently in the process of setting up a new organisation. The 'Air Cooled 911 Racers Association'. We want to use this as a conduit to gauge the response we get to setting up a new series purely for air cooled 911's, from the early cars through to the 993. The regulations we have at present cater for standard as well as modified cars through a number of classes, two things we want feedback on is length of races and tyres. I will post details of the Association and how to register, which is free of charge for this year in a short time but in the mean time I would welcome any comments from 911 owners who are interested. Many thanks. |

sounds good to me, where do i sign up?
i don't have much on the calendar for this year yet so somewhere to race 911's would be good. can we run turbo nutter ******* cars? or fairly standard stuff? |

Hi Rob,
Turbo Nutter ******* are fine as long as you don't mind racing in the turbo nutter ****** class! On a serious note, all levels of tune / modification or standard trim are catered for within the class structure, from a standard 2.0l car to a turbo 993. The idea is to formulate and gather people together this year, we have a provisional date available to us late in the year for a trial race should there be sufficient interest in preparation for a proper series next year. What I would like to know from you is what length of race / races you prefer and whether slicks / wets or road tyres would be your preference. Whatever, tyres will need to be uniform across all classes, ie. either road or slicks / wets. Many thanks for the interest. Steve. Last edited by Moby; 28 Feb 2012 at 17:45. Reason: Spell check |

in my opinion its not sensible to run turbo cars on slicks with historic cars on road legal tyres. so i would suggest going with one or the other depending on how fast you want the cars to run.
the modern thing to do seems to be, to run on list 1b tyres to limit the amount of modified cars competing. you need to decided whether you want to attract the modified cars or the standard cars as i think you'll struggle to get both. I'd rather run my standard...ish 964rs on list 1b tyres than a turbo on slicks. i don't mind about race length, if i were to chose would be 2x15min sprints. I wouldn't travel further than Snetterton (i live near norwich) for a single 20min race though. my advice is to make sure your dates don't clash with other series with lots of 911's (obviously) there are loads of 911's out there racing so if regs and costs are kept sensible it should be popular. |
