following a reply in one topic, a new topic apears, my opinion is
is there any prove that "old" drivers are worst? I dont think so at all, indeed, I would choose two experience drivers and two younger, but I dont saee a problem with 24. Maybe 30 or so is a bit too much for mind perspective reasons, but only that. Experince is always good.

what is your oppinion?

No way would you be 24 again !! No matter what you know, you wouldn't have LEARNED it. So it would be shallow knowledge. Good at pop quizes sort of knowledge, not shine by your own light sort of stuff.

Depends. Since a lot of guys start karting at age 10, 24 is old because of its relation to the starting point of the career, not the actual Age. If you had a 24 year old that could win Senior Zetec races and he'd only been racing since he was 22, you couldnt deny his talent.

I think the age factor for 'pro' racing is a mental thing. I dont think guys lose their talent, witness Mario Andretti winning CART races at 50(!!!) against a decent field. I think its more a case of guys getting tired, espeically in F1, of the 100% 24/7 intensity. They often go into sportscars or touring cars or whatever and are still very quick. So a guy who starts karting at 10 might burn out at 35 in F1 mentally, but a guy who starts at 20 might be able to go till 40 without any problems.

I think 24 is a little late to start a career though.

Seriously ... age is only a marketing problem.

If you look closely to US open-wheel racing series, you will find various drivers with much more then 24 !!!
Check Star Mazda, Indy Pro Series, Toyota Atlantic, etca.

Racing is a mind game regardless of age ... sure if you want to go the professional single-seater route you MUST start early, but even 24 is not Old !!!

Hmmmm 24....nope...dont' think I'll bother remembering 24 - it was a poopy year.

I don't think 24 is old for a driver - I've met karters as young as 8 and drivers in their late 60s. The bottom line is - if you enjoy it and you can afford it - go fer it!

Anyway, back on thread, 24 is neither young nor old. What is important is experience. Some 24 year olds have got more experience in their short lives than most of us 40something year olds have got. And some 24 year olds are babes. (Jinxx gives Francesca a dolly lead ...)

Why you little whippersnapper. In my day we respected our elders, and I didn't have time for all these new fangled notions cuz I had to walk to school 5 miles in 3 feet of snow with only one pair of shoes I had to share with my brother...and it was uphill both ways!
