Omega Piston Rings
I'm rebuilding a B-series engine (1950cc) I needed a new set of Omega Piston Rings (for 83.5mm Omega pistons, #3649). I ordered these from http://www.shengineering.co.uk. However it turns out the oil control rings are too big - I understand that they changed from 3mm to 4mm at some point and mine need the older 3mm ring. All the other rings in the set I bought are OK.
Contacting Omega hasn't helped. Does anyone have any idea if there may be any places that stock the older rings? |

Real engineering - I like that not least because they will be suitable going forward if (when) I need to do it again.
I was going to have new pistons, but they cleaned up very well and I've had them coated. Bought new pins and rings, I thought jobs a good'n. I'm hoping for an easy solution. not least as I'd like it completed! |

83.5 mm is a common Ford crossflow , Bda / lotus twincam size . It may be worth a look on a Ford/ Lotus website to compare sizes . Burtons, QED, etc. Altenative may be looking for a ring manufacturer listing ",Deves" and "Hastings" are ring manufacturers, also seem to remember possibly a company in Bradford, can't remember name though (Bradford piston rings?)!

What did SH Engineering say? Have found Dave pretty helpful.
Have a look for peugeot 205/309 1.9 GTI rings, they were 83mm so 0.5mm oversize rings would work if they are 3mm, which I think they are. FW Thorntons should do them. |
