laps of the gods

Saw some time ago a couple of videotapes, called The Laps of the gods, containing laps around GP tracks about 1980.
Does anyone of you know whether they are worth the money (they are pretty expensive)?

Ahh, good question? What is expensive? What would they be worth to you?

Have you watched any of the tapes? I saw some of the footage when Speedvision played them last year. If you are into nostalgia, they are fantastic. These films were made when 'racecam' was not as pervasive as it is today, and if I remember correctly, the guy behind this project was hailed as a pioneer. There is footage of tracks where F1 do not race any more, and of course most of the drivers are long since gone. One thing you should know is that most (if not all) of the filming was done during testing/practice, not during races, so you won't see any wheel to wheel action. However, if you are looking for great footage of some of the classic cars of the era being driven by the best drivers of the period, this is for you.

Hope this helps.

Definately buy these tapes!!

French film director Alain Boisnard was hird by the Elf fuel company in the mid 70s to 80s to produce promotional films of Elf-dponsored teams. He starpped proper stock-film cameras to the cars and sought out the true driver's-eye view, shooting at F1 tracks all over the world.

If you are a fan of the turbo era cars, this is a must. Watch a lap at full throttle in 1985 with Cheever and Tambay around the old Osterreichring, Alain Prost at Kyalami and Zandvoort, or best of all, Patrick Depailler at Montreal in the wet. He keeps his right foot well and truly buried!

WH Smith produced a compilation of the best footage with commentary by Murray Walker a few years ago, and it's one of the best motorsport videos I own...
