Did you find a pair of shoes, size 8, large, slipper type, brown or black ……………
English type, left goes right and vice versa !!!! Perfect for double de-clutch when racing a SEAT 490!

The Boissy Escort obviously had an early problem costing many laps, but was matching the leaders times in the latter half. It did start to sound a bit sick at the end though. The winning Capri was far enough ahead to be able to cruise the last couple of laps, while Ben Gill closed in on Sean Brown until the latter matched him for the last few laps. The GpA brick (Volvo) came 4th. Lot of fast cars missing for this meeting. No Steve Dance 2600RS or Cologne Capris, and no Rovers! I think Steve is building a 'full spec' GA engined car at the moment, so that may explain his absence. All the fast CSLs seem to have vanished from the series- at one time they were the car to have, so no idea why now out of favour......
Hmmm, interesting.
I thought it was a relatively small entry for the series considering how well it has grown in recent years but wondered if a few would turn up last minute.

Are people getting fed up with being beaten by small class Escorts with stonking engines, and are the later car owners thinking of doing something else?

I really would like to see a UK meeting next year, I think it would benefit the regulars and anyone looking to take part from our shores.

Funny you should say that, James, but I wonder if the series could be spoiled by too many very 'well honed' Escorts. We know that the ex Finotto car is genuine and quick, so should be a benchmark, but it is still not as quick as some others. The Mr John of B Capri is a potential winner when present, Steve Dance's Weslake car also. And Grant Tromans was not at the event so his 'win or break' Cologne rep was missing. Postins Rover is also a front runner usually, and last year there were occasionally 2 Pinepack cars, and they are capable of winning....

Very interesting indeed, both of you. Wasn't the Escort's "of rental" much quicker in period than the works 2.6 RS even when racing at Jarama? Is Steve Dance car a Westlake or a GAA engine, Mike? And yes as already said, the Batmobile's seem less fast than they are supposed to be. It could become an Escort BDG cup, this engine is not allowed in the Iberian series.

Absolutely!

Gerard, Steve Dance's current Grob Capri is Weslake engined, but I believe he is working on a GA car.....

A 'works' Zak Escort won the European Championship in 74 (?) but it was class based. Capri and CSL were usually fighting for victory, but from memory the Escy won one round outright, so a good one should be near to the front of the grid.

And apologies for twice putting a 'K' on the end of 'Pinepac'........

well, in defense of Mike, his cars stayed in tact, so he had already lost much time in comparison to you...

And I doubt the Stephens tow car is limited to 90kph!

Main problem was not being able to get a booking for the Monday ferry. Britney playing silly wotsits again.........

Well, I booked both ferries- waiting list on first (Santander) and confirmed on second (Bilbao), so as had not had former confirmed by sunday, at least knew that there was no point in racing to that port! As it turned out, although got home 19hrs later, it made the journey much more relaxed...... And the Bilbao boat gets into Portsmouth just after rush-hour, whereas the Caen one arrives in time to sit on the local Mways for yonks.

Best bit was missing the bun fight to get out of the paddock sunday eve. PA book their meetings until monday as contractors have to dismantle all the tents and hospitality stuff on that day.

Sure Mike, sure… Some years ago we use to say that knowing some blokes spending time and a lot of money at the "Lovely" located few yards outside of the track. Now its a simple restaurant. But if they want to be period correct they have to bring back the girls!

You've been more careful and more clever than I was, unfortunately. Last time I saw an idiot light thought it was a false alarm. One piston later it was clear that the idiot was at wheel and the lamp is now called stupid light!
If its not a secret, what brand do you use for disc brakes?

I'll raise a glass to paranoia then! Pleased to hear- your engine builder is probably relieved as well....

Rear brakes likely overheating due to the car achieving higher speeds with that shiny new paint job!
