VSCC 'FORMULA VINTAGE' ROUND 1

The meeting formerly known as Spring Start. That always worked for me....

Includes invited grids of F3 500s, FISCAR, HGPCA, HRDC 'Coombs' and Morgan Challenge bolides.

Full detail on VSCC website.

Two-day meeting I see. Normally just one - at least the Spring Start has been in recent years. Should be a good meeting with the invited clubs.

Actually, you're both right - their online Newsletter shows it as 1-day - obviously old news.

Be interesting to see what the members think of the 2-day format. Haven't seen any comments on their site yet.

It has been a two day event in the past with the HSCC.

NHSL should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It was a two day event in 2014 as well, run by the VSCC themselves, not in partnership with the HSCC, although as Bauble says they have combined in the past. I think it's fairly straightforward, if the VSCC run Spring Start for VSCC eligible cars it tends to a be a one day event, when there are invited grids (like this year, 2014 and quite a few other years in the past) then it becomes a two day event.

I imagine that lots of factors including availablity of the circuit, how quickly invited grids confirm, general economics, etc all contribute to the decision.

I suspect the lack of comment on the VSCC forum is because it's not really anything unusual.

Should have bigged this up before. As noted above VSCC has moved this back to a two day event. Always a great meeting.

FISCAR are running the Tom Cole Trophy race again on Saturday over 30 minutes with compulsory pitstop and over 30 entries including 4 Frazer Nashes, 6 Austin Healeys, 3 AC Aces, a DB3S, a Ferrari, possibly a Jaguar C type (late entry), Stephen Bond's Lister Bristol etc etc.

The HSCC two day is/was a separate meeting, with as usual no real Historic Sports Car races unlike the VSCC.

Dear Eric,
I think that 'no historic sports cars' is a not necessarily entirely accurate description of the HSCC two-dayer on May 20/21... or perhaps I have misunderstood what you are trying to say ....

Sorry Nick but being a rather old chap now, I tend to classify 'Historic Sports Cars' as those that were raced in the 1950's or earlier. I appreciate that as time passes by the term means different things to different generations.

Eric,
The car I race in HSCC Historic Road Sports dates from 1969. When I first started spectating at VSCC meetings in 1963, a 48-year old (or thereabouts) sports car would have been built in the post WW1 era. I tend to think of Sixties or even 70s sports car as being fairly aged. John Turner's series will appeal to you, though !

Not sure much has changed with the launch of Formula Vintage, apart from doubling the price at the gate from last year.

A great selection of cars, both racing and private cars in the paddock. Access was also good. Car parking was chaotic as several car parks were being used for autotesting, fairground rides and army displays.

The action on track was the usual VSCC excellent standard, Fiscar and the F3 500s welcome guest series.

Not sure how the commentary team get away with it year after year though. They managed to miss most race starts on Saturday while waffling and didn't know the winner of three races on the trot.

Good to have a chat to a couple of Snetterton locals during the day as well

I must admit I was somewhat amused to see the Army recruiting displays. Given the average age of attendees I would have thought a Home Guard recruiting stand would have been more appropriate.

Hmm.

The Fire Service now expects its people to work until they are 60 rather than offering retirement at 50.

Presumably the Army is considering the same concept but may have spotted a gap in the age range that they need to fill, some having escaped while the pen pushers worked out how to go about things.

A few batches of me, of no particular race - just a general theme over the weekend. A great event as usual - almost makes two days at Silverstone bearable!

Why the scrutineering photo? Well if you're wondering where to store / transport your racing helmet & overalls try this chap's example - grandmother's hatbox.
